Ken there you go again, making me . To answer the question I'm almost in the place where i will be buying a $30k watch. I have narrowed it down to a ROO Chrono. I was realty considering a WG Sub or YG green dial GMTIIc. At this point in my life $50k in watches is enough for me. Maybe in my 40-50's I'll be ready for more but this purchase will be my last major for quite a few years. I'll pick up a LV sub bc I'm in love but no major peices for years. I am set on AP. I haven't narrowed it down to the exact peice but the panda, safari, RG or SS ROO 44mm and a few of the LE are on my radar. I much prefer the ROO Chronos to the solid gold Rolex. I think they are more under the radar. If I get this new job I'm in the running for I will pick up an IWC as a daily dress watch. I tried them on last Friday at Tourneau and I think they are some of the best looking dress watches I've ever tried on. The Potifino ond Portugese are both so beautiful.

Both are clearly fantastic watches but for me I just find the AP ROO too big .....simple as that ......
I love the design of the ROO (panda dial especially) and the quality quite obviously speaks for itself.... But despite having been in and out of AP ADs all over the world trying to convince myself, I have sadly come to the conclusion I will never own one But the WG Sub just fits and is so wearable and I love mine....... But even if I felt I could wear an AP, even though it would be a difficult decision, when spending that sort of wedge, if I had to choose, I would still come down on the side of the Sub just because it is so individual |

I think it's ironic that 2 fine watches are very likely to go unnoticed by the casual non WIS passerby. Which is fine, I prefer to go relatively unnoticed.
But I would bet, the typical person seeing the WG Sub would think its fake, and a bad fake at that! Few non WIS think Subs come in any color other than black. Likewise, to a non WIS passing by, an AP, especially a ROO with ltd edition colors, or one of the futuristic survivor type AP's, could very likely be seen as a cheap watch. When in fact, it might be upwards of $50k for a ltd Ed. The real irony is, I'd bet in a room of non WIS, a guy with a black Sub will get more attention (if any as few people ever look at your watch) but, if anybody did, I think the plain blk sub would be recognized as the nice, real Rolex, and the WG perhaps dismissed as a fake. Which is maybe a good thing, there are certainly times and places I'd not want to be recognized as wearing $30-50,000 on my wrist. The only time I really care to have my watch noticed is when I'm kicking tires at a nice watch store, in which case it usually seems to come in handy. :) For the record, I don't own, nor can I really afford a WG Sub or a higher end AP. The diver maybe I could swing, but I'm pretty content lately with my small rotation. :) The rest of the time, I'm sort of glad few people really look at or care about your watch. Once in a blue moon I guess it's nice if you run into a fellow WIS, and then your watch gets noticed, only happened to me once, a guy noticed my Pam. |

Thanks to all response and pictures, guys......Both watches seemed to have quite equal scores. Guess I have to check and try both for the last time, just to make sure which one is my next love.

You would be better off considering an AP Royal Oak, and avoiding the Royal Oak Offshore, as the original AP RO has a truly iconic design.

I would get the "Smurf" in a heart-beat. Very different watches.

I'm a big fan and owner of Rolex and AP
If talking standard AP ROO I would go with the WG Sub.
Probably because I'm yet to own it and it may very well be next on my list... |

I think it really just depends as to which one you like the best.
