I'm looking to buy another vintage Rolex for my daughter. She likes my Oyster but she is messy, forgetful, and loses things so I won't let her wear my favorite one. She's a teenager, what can I say???

So, I guess the answer is probably not.

No problem here lending out any of my watches. Heck, I've lent out cars to friends for weeks at a time. At the same time, I've had friends willing to lend me theirs as well. They're only material possessions. More important things in life, and these material possessions are easily replaceable.

No one has asked to borrow my watch, but I let my relatives drive any of my cars, any of which are worth far more $$ than my watch. My in-laws let me drive around their Mercedes' (a Mercedes SL convertible, and an "S" class sedan) whenever I needed to. My mother in law has let me wear a very expensive necklace for a very fancy dinner. All items far exceeded the value of any watch I will ever own.

I also let my in-laws drive around my children, so if I trust them with my kids, I don't see how letting them borrow a watch is a big deal.

That being said, I would not let someone who is known to be irresponsible borrow my watch, car, or anything of significant value.

I'd trust my wife with anything.

I'd love my kids to want to wear my watch when they're old enough. Hopefully my wife and I will have taught them to be responsible enough if that day happens.

For anyone else, it would depend on individual circumstance, but I can't imagine a scenario where anyone I know would ask to borrow my watch.

I can't for the life of me think why any of my friends WOULD ask me to borrow my watch... If they did and it was for good reason, ie their watch was broken and they couldn't tell the time, I might give them my swatch for a day or two I the same way I'd lend them my car if they had no wheels and really needed to get somewhere.

If they wanted to borrow my Rolex for a single event purely so they could "flash" a Rolex (which wasn't even theirs) I'd start to wonder why they were my friend...

No.

Too risky in that if something were to happen to the watch, it could jeopardize a relationship. Just a fact of life. Pertains to my car as well.

I also cannot conceive of a situation in which someone close to me would even ask to borrow a watch. For what purpose? To impress someone? Count me out.

Conversely, I would never ask a friend or relative to lend me his or her jewelry. I would understand how personal such items are.

Bottom line: If someone is going to mar or lose one of my watches, let it be me.

I haven't had my IWC in over a year, I left it for my dad when I got my sub. Of course if he broke it he could pay up or for a new one.
For friends, it depends who and for what. But, if it's a reasonable request from a trustworthy friend I wouldn't have a big problem with it.

I regularly lend my watches to my brother, mother and father. If my girlfriend liked watches that didn't have diamonds on them she would be wearing my watches too

Half the fun of owning these watches for me is getting to see the smile on their faces when they wear these types of watches

Nobody I know would ask to wear it. My Mum and Dad could wear it whenever they want and so could any of my uncles and aunts mainly because if any thing happened they would pay to get it fixed without a question. They know what my watches mean to me.

My gf would be allowed but she never asks for some reason. She wore my Sub around the house a bit when I first got it then got bored. Nobody else is allowed to borrow them and I'd be in a bad position if someone asked. I'd just have to say something like "sorry insurance only covers it if something happens to it in my possession". Borrowing for a night is very different to letting someone wear it though. Any one I know reasonably well can try my watch on for a minute or so.

My son has worn my Sub at times while we have been together.

Although he probably would never ask, I would most likely let him wear it out if he wanted to.
