Yea mate, thats why you gotta buy the seller first (references, emails, phone etc) and then you could deal in confidence.

Ditch the bank and Paypal guys, exchange places are the best (rates-wise)!

Next time you could also use XE.com it takes a couple of days to setup, but you can do it all online (account setup, bpay, eft to seller), no fees and x-rate conversion is very good also.
