Go with GMT man, Rolex in all glory but what do ya do with a watch? you are checking time with it, and with a GMT you can check up to 3 different times with so... GMT

Sub for me.
The GMT is a fine watch. 2nd time zone and PCLs look great . Can't go wrong with either. Also, don't take "investment" into your decision. |

I'm taking your advice--I'm just heading out the door to try the GMT and the Sub on to see how they feel. Maybe I'll bring one home, we'll see.!

GMT or Sub
Doug - I have both and whilst the Sub c is a fantastic watch, the GMT has better wrist presence - and so if I were choosing only one, it would be the GMTc!!
However there will always be different opinions, as they have very different features, so the only way to know for sure, is try them on and see which one calls out to you - but you really cannot go wrong with either!! Good luck, and I look forward to seeing the pics |

Go to an AD and try on both. I have a SubC but think the GMTIIc is the best all around watch Rolex makes. Price is basically the same. Just depends on which you like the most.

Bought the 14060M no date and the GMT II c both new, in August. (No, I'm not a drug dealer, oil sheik, "baller" or crook-I traded for the Sub and got a small inheritance I spent part of on the GMT II).
I wear the Sub daily and love it, but if I had to rescue one from a burning building, I'd save the GMT II. RE the original post, more subs sold seems to equal better resale demand, according to my local AD. |

If you are basing it purely on aesthetics, I think the GMT IIC wins.. one of the best looking, if not THE best looking, Rolex watches available in my opinion.
If you are going for function or other reasons, then ???? Good luck with your decision! |

Isn't the Submariner the "Flagship" of the Rolex line :)

I think the aesthetic issue is arguable, I don't care for the busy bezel and polished center links of the GMT, but the GMT functionality is nice (although that is also available in the Explorer II).

You can always brush the centre links of the GMT c.

For me the sub wins in the ss model and the gmt wins in the tt and gold. The ss sub is probably the most copied watch for a reason. Its just classic. I am referring to the ceramic models by the way.

These are both excellent watches. You will buy one and then buy the other.

Well I went in today and had a good look at both the GMT and the Sub. Tried them on a few times until I think they were getting a little tired of me. I think (?) the GMT is the winner but not by a whole lot. I really liked the fine adjusting feature on the Sub bracelet but I'm not sure that I'd make that much use of it. Both are exceptional units for sure. I may end up with both some day but for now we're mulling over the price. I have a well looked after Datejust model 16220 that was just serviced by Rolex 2 months ago that will be used as a trade. We're $500.00 apart and I'm not bending in this case. I want the deal at $4500 plus tax difference and he's at $5000. Am I being reasonable? We'll see what happens tomorrow.

I have (had) both a 116710 and 116610LV. Flipped the LV (still a drop dead fantastic piece) and brushed my GMT C bracelet. I don't dive but do use the GMT feature. Miss the green terribly (and the glide-lock clasp) but am totally satisfied with the GMT C. The triplock crown is an added plus, I'd wear it anywhere.

Just got a call from the AD I went to yesterday to try on the Sub as well as the GMT #116710 LN. My trade is a 13 year old Datejust 16220 in good shape. He offered the new GMT at $4750. difference on the GMT. Do you feel this is a good deal as you people know a lot more about pricing of Rolex than I do. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Great choice on the GMT.
I went with the Sub-C at first. Then I traded if for a GMT-C, and I have no regrets. The GMT wears more comfortably on my wrist.

Went to the AD today and took the plunge. I decided on the GMT 116710 LN. I must have tried the Sub and the GMT on 10 times and looked at the features of each. Then it was almost a flip of the coin trying to decide but I think the GMT felt better on my arm. It felt more natural if that makes any sense. I'm not sure how to post a pix of it on this forum as I have never posted a picture on any forum before. If I can get a decent shot of it tonight and figure out the posting, I'll send one on. Thanks to all of you for your advice and comments. They were very helpful. This forum is a great wealth of knowledge for sure.
