I would go for the SD. The SD is far more versatile and wearer friendly to boot.

No modern Rolex is collectable, as there are so many made. That holds true for the 16600 and the 16610 as well. Of course there may be "certain" serials that are deemed more desirable than others, but don't fall into that trap. Just buy what YOU like.
To answer your question, the SD would be my choice...juut because it trumps the more popular Sub! BTW, the SD was my first! Scott

The SubC, because it goes well with any attire, and Rolexes are great daily watches :)

I wear both watches you have posted, a ceramic submariner and the sea dweller.
The submariner ceramic has a larger foot print but the profile of the watch is slightly lower (atleast if feels that way) The sea dweller is classy, classic and stealthly with the non mag date window. Either way, you cant go wrong....for me I prefer the ceramic submariner because of the glidelock clasp and the super case feel.

I've had a number of subs and the SD4000. Now sport the DSSD. Have to admit it has a charm all it's own. I like the bigger size, and over engineering that went into its production.

SeaDweller. Sits higher on the wrist, feels heavier if you like that and clean with no cyclops 👍

My choice would be the Sub the Sea Dweller is a little large for me. Unless you dive below 1000ft the sub is just fine.

Either the Sub or SD are good bets - don't rule out the Explorer 16570 also - excellent all rounder watch that can often be picked up at a good price. good luck!

They are two very different watches IMHO. I have an SD so am biased, but both are great watches.
The main selling points of the SD for me are: - a little bulkier so can have more presence on the right wrist - no date bubble - rarer than the Sub, especially in the UK (never seen anyone else wearing one) - amazing depth rating, gives it a 'story' The main selling points of the Sub for me are: - iconic Rolex, some argue every collection should have one - the larger lugs mean it wears bigger than it's 40mm (good for poking out from shirts) - vastly better clasp Both are great, I like to be different so wouldn't have a standard black sub (hence why I have just ordered a bluesy) so if budget was a constraint, I would go hulk if I could stretch to it over the black. As for an everyday wearer...I have a small collection of 'fine' watches and the only one that I have worn everyday no matter what I've been doing (including heavy duty DIY and gardening) is the SD, even though it is my most expensive watch. It will get scratched but it can be polished. My SD was born to be worn |

Guess I confuse the Sea Dweller with the Deep Sea, which I take it is the big bruiser of dive watches. I have a Sub, and the beauty is that I am not overloaded with extraneous data when all I want is the time!

The Sub, SD or DSSD are all winners no matter which you choose. Having dabbled in all of the mentioned models I can say that the DSSD has impressed me the most.

Just to throw a wrinkle into your selection process, must this be a 'tool' watch ? As an everyday watch, will it be worn in the office, for work and in casual settings? If so, I can think of no other Rolex more versatile than the Explorer I.

I prefer the Sub (16610) myself, as it fits my wrist better. Try them both on.

Superdome. easy. 1665... ? Wow you've got a good eye (or maybe a good knowledge of Rolex cases )
@OP 16600 or 14060M would be my recmmendation in your price range. Anything with a Superdome is bound to be outside of your (and my) budget...
