I really like Omega, and have quite a few, but the 8500 PO is just too thick for everyday wear if I had to choose one. If you're looking at one watch as an all-rounder and those are the only two choices, then go for the GMT (I'd personally go with the Blue/Black variant).

Both great watches but if I could only have one I'd go with the GMT. For me, I had to have both.

The 8500 will probably be too thick and the old GMT maybe too small at a pure 40mm so the best choice might be the GMT ceramic which wears like a 42mm.

I work in a restaurant and run around all day so I wear the po more...it feels like it can take a beating more,which it does well....I wear the gmt on the Sundays and as my casual wearer. Which fits my wrist perfect and sits low also. People just know what a rolex is compared to an omega.

I have owned the PO 3 hander and chrono, both are tooheavy for daily wear. I have a Pepsi GMT I use every day, nice and light, forget I'm wearing it sometimes.

I have a PO GMT, and am on the hunt for a GMT, so I am no help. The PO is thick but I don't find it too heavy and cumbersome. Get the one you like best!

I think the GMT is a more versatile watch for everyday wear, and more comfortable. One thing to consider is weight and thickness. The PO 8500 is a great watch, but it's a beast of watch. It's quite thick and doesn't really fit well underneath your sleeves very easily whereas a GMT is lower profile and lighter. Whatever floats your boat, it's a Rolex forum so responses are likely going to be a little biased.

Have you considered a PO 2500? It's still hefty, but a little lighter and thinner than the current 8500s.

The best daily you can get it the one you can see yourself dig dirt, ride bike, shower, shave and I guess you get the idea I find they are all great granted some blingier models depend on your daily environment.
