Forgive my stupidity, this is a serious question.
How are the holes that don't penetrate the lug actually put in? Are they drilled through and filled in or drilled from the inside, if drilled from the inside....HOW, there's not much room, about 20mm generally. Told you it was a stupid question |

Love me some lug holes. I wish every watch had them.

The holes are machined during the initial cnc phases, and then plug welded shut and the finishing process removes any evidence of the weld. Somewhere I have some photos of the process...

Another way to do it is with an off-set drill, but I have no reason to doubt this is correct...

Amen. I wear my 116710LN everyday while beating up the airways in the Western Hemisphere. I don't spend my precious money on watch sprays or custom made down pillows for it to sleep on. It's a tool I use every bit as much as the PanAm guys in their 707s used theirs. The only difference really is my bracelet is better, I have a bezel I prefer which will look better longer, and a slightly more refined movement.

Stronger (so I've read), extremely easy to change out bracelets...and they just look cool --- what more could you want?

The holes aren't stronger, of course, but they allow the use of non-shouldered spring bars which put roughly twice as much pin into the hole, which definitely seems like it would be stronger...

Got to be just down to personal choice - would agree with what someone has said earlier that with the advent of even greater technology, the mechanical tool watch has largely been overtaken as a concept. True...you can buy a watch at a fraction of the cost of a Rolex, and it will do everything and more....it will even go deeper than any of us ever will.....but for many of us, we just like to cling on to the past!
