Panameras are very, very, very nice. They're massive, but don't handle the way they look. 4.8? That's the Turbo? You can't go wrong there. Pick the right colour, go for moderate wheels, and you're well sorted. Don't even need to tick all the options for the interior.
Drive side- these are great. The standard petrol and diesel variants feel a little underpowered, so you're better off in a S, GTS, or Turbo model. The chassis can easily handle all that power, and you would be surprised to see how these babies handle out on a track. |

Would not want to be seen dead in one, but they are good cars if you can manage the image.

I didn't, but their pricing for the fun seems reasonable. Couple hours for $400. Not bad. Sure beats BMW in Spartanburg. Sure, you get more time on the track but the prices are 4x Porsche.

Got a chance to drive the Panamera GTS and Panamera Hybrid with the Cayenne GTS, Cayenne Hybrid, Macan Turbo and 911s, Boxsters, Caymans on a race track a couple weekends back.
Panamera definitely had a much better feel of lower centre of gravity than the Cayenne and although the Panamera is front engined, I could feel it squat down and push more weight reward around the corners whereas the Cayennes would be breaking traction and getting some wheel hop during hard cornering, I didn't get the same from the Panameras at similar speeds. The Panamera did feel heavy and sluggish at turn in however but was an improvement in either trim over the Cayenne. I personally would take the Panamera over the Cayenne but preferred the driving experience of the Macan Turbo over both the Panamera and the Cayenne. The Macan didn't have the heavy feel, felt balanced and seemed planted and smooth, while its driving experience was dulled compared to the GTS Boxster and Cayman, I felt its planted and smooth feeling felt more in line with the 911 GTS 4 than any of the others. The Boxster and Cayman skated around hard corners, you could feel the rear end slide around while it felt the 911 and Macan held traction and went around the hard corners like they were on rails, maybe less fun but at the track or everyday I would pick the Macan over the Cayenne and Panamera. |

I am a massive Porsche fan and I know the Panamera is an awesome car and if I wanted a super fast 4 seater like Dr Tom and had the cash it probably would be on the list. But I have to say compared to the lines of a 1977 928 or even a 991 series 911, I do not think they are attractive and would tend to support the notion of Top Gear that the best angle to look at them is from inside the car......
I understand corporate realities and why Porsche, Lambo and others do or will make SUV's etc...... For mine I would be keen on the new Cayman GT4 otherwise I probably would go a 996 series GT3. Cars are painfully expensive here so it is always a matter of what you can afford.

Yes in the Top Gear episode it was the ugliest of the cars but had best lap time IIRC? No I don't like the rear and why I customized the wing and bumper, the newest version kinda made it look better, but make no mistake the PANAMERA is Porsche through and through Kinda like comparing the DSSD and my Daytona |
