This is precisely why I went BNIB when I acquired my Rolex. We never really know what the previous owner of a used watch did to it.

Sounds like old "cold water shrinkage" to me.
You go in cold water and things shrink...
Maybe the spring shrank and/or the oils hit just the right temperature to solidify and stop the workings.

As an Engineer with a Graduate Degree (who usually doesn't know what the hell he's talking about) I agree with this. Seriously, a quick temperature change can change a lot of things when it comes to lubrication and metals, it was definitely due for a service anyway. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to TRF.

Does the paperwork say that there was no problem with it? I would call the Service Center which serviced and personally talk to them.
