You hit the dress watches right on the head! Love the VC, Patek and the JLC.

Have you posted your thoughts on the Omega forum, Niki ?
I suggest that you do it since most of the regular Omega contributors and watch pundits have both Sub and the Speedy in their collection. Trust me! You would be surprised at the feedbacks

p/s : If you do , send my love and warmest regards to everyone and tell them meganfox is still alive

Depends. If the Speedmaster is a box you're trying to tick or just to hold you over until the Daytona, then go for what you really want instead. If you want it for it's own merits, go for the trade, but be sure to make enough cash in the process.

I have a Speedmaster and no Sub... just saying it's possible.

I'd keep the Sub and BLNR and sell off the Longines and Nomos. Then save up for the Daytona. Worse comes to worse you have better luck getting funds back from selling or trading Rolex pieces.

The non Rolex in your collection don't hold any appreciable value save for any sentimental memories.

I'm probably the only person here who prefers the Speedy as a chrono to the Daytona, both in terms of looks, usability and, sorry, coolness.
I'd buy a used modern version, complete set for around $3k, wear it a while, then decide whether i wanted to ditch which watches for funds towards your Daytona....

I'd add a preloved Speedmaster. Very fair prices in the secondary market.

You are not alone. I love the Speedy as an only chronograph and would not trade it for a Daytona.

This. No question. A 114060 for a SMP is a really bad move IMHO.

Silly trade or not (based on current collection)?

I agree that the SUB and GMT are similar, but here you have the ND and BLNR, so not exactly similar.

Also, if you are like me, who stands behind the notion that any collection should have a Sub and Speedy (notice it's never a Daytona), then I would not trade one for the other - you need both, so save up for the speedy or what I would do, is get rid of the nomos and longines to fund the speedy and save up for a nice JLC dress watch later down the line.

Personally I prefer the Speedy Pro to the Daytona. Something about the intimate connection you get from a manual wind and the fact that it's a true chameleon that brings it home.

I own a sub and a moon watch. I like them both.
If I were you I'd try to buy the moon watch outright and keep the sub or trade up.

Thanks for all your replies, appreciate your time taken. I've agreed with everyone's sentiments at some stage. A little more info in terms of what each watch means to me...

The Longines whilst never worn holds sentimental value as it was an 18th birthday present from my now deceased Grandma, so this watch won't be going anywhere. It probably holds minimal value also so likely not worth selling/trading sentimental value aside anyway.

The Nomos gets worn little by myself since purchasing the 2 Rolex watches but does get worn by the wife a fair amount.

The GMT is a birth year watch for my youngest, 2017, so this isn't moving anywhere. I currently wear this as my daily and love it.

The Sub gets worn evenings and weekends when swimming/outdoor activities tend to occur. I do like the simple dial but occasional find it a little similar to the GMT.

In terms of the Speedy, I've tried one on a few times and love how it looks. I'm also drawn to it being a manual wind.

From the comments received so far I think perhaps trading the Nomos in towards a Speedy might make the most sense (at least from my perspective!). If I do go for a speedy I'd be looking for a 2011 piece as a birth year watch for my eldest son.

I'm guessing the Daytona will be 4-5 years off yet and fancy it being a 40th Birthday present to myself if I'm honest (and have saved!). Plenty of time to enjoy a Speedy in the interim, thought?

Cheers again,

Niki

I think the Speedy gives your collection more diversity in terms of both brands and complications, and I don't think the Sub is necessarily more iconic than a Speedy from a collector's perspective. That said, a lot of people will say a collection can't be complete without a Sub, so you may want it again at some point.

If you don't think you'll ever afford the Daytona without this trade, then make the trade. But if you can be patient, then I'd save up to buy the Daytona. Like others have said, modern Speedys can be had pretty cheap, so that should be an afterthought if you can swing a Daytona one day.

Good chance you'll want a Speedy and a Sub in your collection over the long haul as they're probably the biggest icons in the watch collecting world. Like a lot of these people say, you'll probably regret the sale, but if you're patient and you find that you can afford the Daytona in a few years, then chances are you'll be able to afford a Speedy as well (can be had pretty cheaply for modern versions).

I'm also a little biased towards Nomos, just love that brand, so I wouldn't rush to trade that one in either.
