I wear 31mm sometimes, 1940s bubblebacks. The RAF pilots in WWII favored "boys size" Rolex watches over the standard military issue watches of the day, according to 3-4 sources. Fashion is a reaction to the past: small wristwatches, especially shaped examples, were a contrast to the large, round pocket-watches of the previous era. Bubbleback prices seem to be coming back from their lowest point, but I have only seen one or two "in the wild".
