Icon20 Help Me Please Rolex 6549 18K Pictures Inside

I just recently purchased this watch 6549 Year 1958.

It was described as a Mens watch, but is very small when I put it on my wrist, the band seems almost Lady size.
Box, Paper and apprasial.

I feel bad as I was expecting a wider band and am thinking of returning it.

What do you think.

Paid 5K

Looks like a very nice original watch. The patina looks good imo. I have noticed that a lot of these vintage watches were smaller in size like this. I think this is just how watches were back in the day? I think the vintage 40MM Subs and GMT's of the day were probably considered super huge? It's obvious that the styles of watches today are getting larger (and "beefier"), hence the 43MM SD, the 41MM DJ and DD. Larger is where the trend is apparently going.

I'm not sure what models of Rolex you own now, but do you think that you might be just used to the feel of a more modern watch? Comparing to this vintage one, I can understand why you might feel that it's way too small. What size is this watch? 34MM?

In the end, keeping or returning this watch will be totally up to you. I think I'd wear it, but my wrist is smaller and a 36MM fits me well. A 40MM is about as large as I can pull off. An SD43 is a nice watch but no way would ever work for me.

I don't know your wrist size, but this may even look funny on some people's arms. In the end, what are we buying these watches for? It's for ourselves and how it feels, and how it makes us feel! If you don't feel good wearing it or if you don't like the look, I'd say return it. I bet if you keep it, you won't end up using it much. Take your $5K and put it towards another model that you'll actually enjoy. That's my $0.02! :)

Good luck on whatever you decide.

Its 31mm, so yes it is small compared to the sizes that generally is in style right know. I think it looks good on you though, gorgeous watch!

Looks very good on your wrist...much better than a big modern Rolex with overhanging lugs would look.

No, it's just old. Hundreds of thousands of men went into battle in WWII wearing similar size watches.

It's from an era of small watches. Calatravas were available from I think 29mm, certainly 31, 32, 33. The 31mm Rolex was known as 'boy size', 31s are still available in various models. It's a nice set. Up to you.

I'd wear it with a suit, or in long sleeves, but in short sleeves it looks marginal. To me, just a little too small. If you feel it's too small to wear with your "look", you should return it and buy a different watch.

Thanks for all the feedback.

there seems to be a crustacean in-between the lug and case?

What the hell is it?

Look?

Looks like years of dirt, grime, sweat, dead skin and other things that come from wearing a watch everyday but never cleaning it. Nothing that a sonic washer cant clean.

I have been thinking about this watch lately quite a bit. It is still available as I am the only one who was and has been offered the watch. The seller feels comfortable giving it to me as it was there Grandfathers watch and knows I will appreciate it. I know it is going to need a complete over haul unless I plan on keeping it as is, but it has trouble staying running.
What would this model cost for an overhaul in your opinion?
Would you stay clear?
What are your thoughts?

Oh ya, by the way, when ever I wore it for the short period of time owned it everyone stared at.
Thought I'd throw that in there along with how beautiful the SunBurst or as I like to call it Solar Flare dial looks

The more and more I keep talking about it the more and more I keep selling myself

It's a 31. You think it's maybe small. I think if you wear it and ANYONE ever looks sideways at it you're going to think, "It's too small", and regret your purchase.

You have fairly small wrists, and a 34mm model would probably fit you very well. If I were you I'd look at some of those, because they can still be found fairly cheaply. Something like a 6694 or newer automatic model would be possible in the USD1500-2500 range in good condition, and THAT wouldn't be too small.

Best of luck to you

This is a strange thread. Your original post several months ago states that you just purchased the watch. Now months later you say it still available and you are thinking about it? What are we missing here?
And yes, it’s very small

I have owned several Rolexes in that size range. The gold ones really pop, compared to the steel. They are a little small for today's men's watch styles, but still wearable if you are not too big a guy. Perfect vintage dress watch for a woman, that's for sure!
