Buy a sub now, wear it for 6 months, see if you can comfortably live with one watch. You might find that you don’t “need” anything else! Personally, I would buy grey if I really wanted it.

I would think in a slightly different way ...

Buy a Sub date now .. Go grey if you have to.

the "MarkUp" is not such a high percentage.

Get on the list at your AD for your BLRO. That way you get a Rolex now and later on when the BLRO becomes available for you through the AD you won't be paying over the odds. A new model may even be released at Basel with the bracelet you want on it whilst you are on the list.

That's good advice, thank you.

I wish there was a UK buy and sell on here. Almost every listing is US which isn't worth it for us.

There are safe places to buy easily in the UK though and they are not doing crazy stuff.

Could you please point me in the direction of some that you recommend? I'd be grateful

The secondary market price is what the watch is actually worth, so as long as you do your research and buy from a good seller at a fair price then I don’t think you have any reason to be anxious about going for it, even though in theory the watch could be had cheaper from an AD - but at what cost in terms of waiting and building a relationship, either through sucking up to them with frequent visits or buying stuff you don’t really want!

No, I definitely do not have an unlimited budget. A price drop would only hurt in the sense of "if i waited i could have got the same watch for £2k less" for example. Its like a what if type thing.

I suppose my question really is: Is this a 12k watch? After buying it, will i be thinking that its not worth the money paid, which will outweigh the enjoyment of owning it.

What other models do you suggest I have a look at?
IMHO, if you are paying more than the MSRP price set by Rolex, then any substantial difference above that is not worth it. Only you can decide what is "substantial."

In regards to the Sub as your second choice, if it was me, I would wait to see about getting your hands on your first choice, since that is what you really wanted from the beginning. Another thing to keep in mind about the Sub, especially the black version, is that everyone has one. I have found myself waiting in line at a single ride at an amusement park and have counted up to 8 black subs by the time I get around the "pipe laberint."

I know you said you’d like your first purchase to be at an AD, it here’s what I’d recommend. Look for the right sub or on the grey market, you might enjoy the search, and you have a Rolex right away. Then order a BLNR from an AD, to get the experience in a couple of years. When the BLRO is delivered, take off the jubilee bracelet, replace it with the Sub bracelet, put the sub on a NATO.

Optional extra #1. Sub may be ready for a service when. BLNR arrives so take the Sub to RSC on the NATO strap and see if they will sell you an oyster bracelet when they service it. Then you will have two glidelock equipped oyster bracelets for your two SS Rolex

Optional extra #2. If you really want to own them forever and don’t care about resale, you could sell the BLNR’s Jubilee bracelet for a nice chunk of change, more than offsetting the cost of the oyster you just bought.

This! I was in the same predicament, I got on the list at all the AD’s for a JC DSSD and then bought something that was more reasonably priced on the grey market (Explorer II) and got the call from the AD the very next day! I felt as though I won twice over, got both watches for a tiny bit over MSRP. I definitely thought I would be waiting longer though, was a brand new AD and just got lucky.
