For my last birthday, my wife gave my a blank check for any Rolex I wanted. I ended up with the blue face YM. I had the blue and gray side by side and the blue was just breathtaking. I’ve worn it for almost a year and the bezel is pristine.

I have the platinum 5 digit. Bought mine before the advent of that beautiful blue dial or rhodium. Both terrific looking. The PCL bracelet on mine still looks new, but I’m as careful as I can be with it. The bezel, in my opinion, seems to be fairly robust. No marks on mine. Beautiful, and to me, rather heavy watch. You can’t go wrong with any of them.

Over the past year, I have had both the rhodium and blue dial YMs. My observations, subjective of course, are: 1) I found the hands on the rhodium a bit tough to see in low light. In bright light it was fine. 2) The blue dial in bright sunlight is magnificent. Hard to describe, but sunlight makes it pop against the steel. 3) No issues at all with the bezel scratching. Overall, really like them both. I have a fairly small wrist and they fit nicely. Good luck with your decision!

Last time I went to the AD, this was the only SS sports model in stock. I went there hoping for a sub or exp ii, but I tried on the YM anyway. It fit great, the size is perfect, weight is perfect, and it just felt right. Regardless, I didn't buy it. Guess what? Now it's gone, my AD has zero SS sports models, and I missed a good opportunity. MSRP is over $11k US, so if you can get it at $10.5k US, I'd say it's a good buy, although resale isn't quite as strong as some other references.

I love my YMblue. The blue dial is incredible. I never had any issues about the besel being scratched. If you have an opportunity to buy it, go for it.

I’m just wondering if it makes sense to hold out for the GMTs (to at least see them in person)?

FWIW - the YM is available in blue, rhodium and chocolate dials (this one is a two tone). No discounts available on any Rolex pieces.

That’s about right. See pic below I took in Zurich a few days ago. Exchange rate US to Swiss Fr is 1:1. But you get 7.5 % VAT refund though. It’s available but I passed holding out for SS models.

I blame it on autoconnect.

Yachtmasters are sooooooo underrated. I think they all look stunning. I had a 16622 and love that piece for a long time. it was my daily wear for the longest. Only traded it because my grail came in.

Considering that until very recently, YMs were heavily discounted, I’d have a hard time paying retail. But if you love it, why not? The market is the market.
You could say that for any Rolex and vintage especially more so...

Very true....but a market correction will inevitably come. Up to OP if it matters.

It is the Horus Strap - was a special run of Miami Blue straps...

I feel like I should ad that , the picture I posted is not mine - only to portray how it will look when I am back from travels and can set it up :)

“need yet another watch!”

It’s “want” not “need”.

Fantastic pics folks! that rhodium dial sure is stunning!

I have to let one, possibly two watches go to fund this purchase. So the options are:

1. Say goodbye to my PAM 233 (which sees the least amount of wrist time and is the most uncomfortable, unless worn on a rubber strap); or

2. Bid farewell to the Explorer 1 (I wear the watch the way it is meant to be worn and it shows signs of wear)?

Doubt that the YM can replace the Explorer as a beater watch, though, but that PAM is iconic and just adds a lot of variety to my modest collection.

Thoughts?

For me - easily option 1) Rid the Pam , inbound the rhodium. No questions, if it was me :)

Then down the road, explorer 1 to an explorer 2 ;)

There is something to these watches in the direct sunlight, they are beautiful. Get the rhodium while you can, I love mine. It has some weight to it, you definitely know you are wearing it. I am curious what it would look like on a leather Everest or a nato.

Due to this, only the RG and the WG ones are interesting to me.
I always thought the platinum bezel looked strange in pictures, but in my opinion it looks amazing in person. Was down to the choice between blue and rhodium and went with the blue. Both are beautiful in person, but the blue sunburst dial really stands out. Pictures don't do either of these ones justice.

To answer the scratch question, I had a YM 16622 edition, and I found that the bezel polished numbers did scratch rather easily, as do the PCL. It bugged me, but I'm a bit OCD.

The new one with the rhodium dial is gorgeous in pictures, but for me, in person, it didn't motivate me enough to actually buy it. But that's me. Everyone is different.

As someone else noted, buy it because you love it, not simply because its available.
