I see they offer brushed (or polished) refinishing as a reversable process. Could be just what some people are looking for.
They are charging a lot though... £150 to remove a cyclops. Heck, I'll do it for free with a large chisel and a slug of whisky to steady the ol' nerves... I wonder how many customers have clicked to buy a brand new Daytona or DSSD, and then added a few custom options? Cheers

Wonder if you don't like it, you could take it to RSC and see what they say. Maybe if you don't it, they will replace the case for you back to the orginal (of course for a cost). Keep in mind, this is not Non OEM parts, this is just a modification to orginal parts.
WWRWD? Wonder what RSC would do?

Crown guards must stay in my opinion otherwise a diver might bump the crown on some water and tear the thing off!
Yep. Crown guards must stay!

Am I missing something, why would you want to take a modern Rolex and remove the crown guards. Why not buy a vintage Sub without the guards to satisfy your desires!!!

Project x designs
Thank you all for your valued opinions.
The variety of responses is exactly what were looking to achieve. Any design should always seek to provoke a reaction or discussion at the least. The project X concept is in the service that we provide, and the opportunites that the user can create, rather than the specifics of each individual option. For those that are already satisfied with the watch that they own, then this service may not be for you. But for those that want something more personal, to impose their own style or intepretation to their watch, they now have a service that offers the expertise of master watchmakers + craftsman that they may not normally have access to......and with the assurance that the final product will be to the standard that they would expect. If Rolex is your religon then I understand that this could be an act of heresy :-). But..... If your watch is more of an expression or extension of your personal style, something that you just like to enjoy, then hopefully we can help. Customisations of luxury goods, such as cars, jewellery, bags, shoes + watches have been going on for many years, it may not be for everyone, but it all adds to the enjoyment of collecting, and thats all that matters Daniel B Project X Designs |

Looks weird with the Triplock crown. I like the larger super case crown guards but don't care for the thicker lugs. I wonder if they could shave down the lugs on a super case. Hmmm.

Daniel,
Thank you for posting in this thread and introducing yourself. I personally am in the group that belives a watch should not be altered in the way you advertise, call me old fashioned, (or any other name you like), but that's just how I feel. However, I also respect the fact that a person should have the right to do what they want with their own property, and if a Rolex owner desires the crown guards taken off, then it's good they have a professional company such as yours the provides the service. I wish you the best of success in your endeavor, please keep us posted here on your company's exploits and thank you for taking care of people with a passion for Rolex. |

Boy am I conflicted! I consider myself a purist, but the black finish and shaved crown guards looks just cool.
To further complicate matters, I'd need to have a plexi crystal to get the full effect, which would mean butchering an actual vintage. Argh. Aha...maybe modifying a Tudor sub wouldn't be as sacriligeous. I also hate that I'd want to do the job myself...imagine screwing it up! Yeesh. Anyway - if anyone has one done I'd like to see follow up photos. Cheers.
