the mere suggestion is butchery to me, but then again I'm the sensitive type
I do think it's funny that they stress the disclaimer "The Process is NOT reversible"

Hi Sean:
That dreamer was me! Here was the post you refer: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=68115 To your joking proposition, of taking a file myself and do the job, I answered that I was not speaking of butchering a present made watch, which I personally felt being simple "heresy" to do that. Regarding the Project X you bring now to discussion: I was just talking of a personal desire: that Rolex would bring a modern recreation of the "guardless" Sub. Nothing else. I meant a Rolex made by Rolex. This offering is not for me, but it doesn´t mean someone would be interested in such a customization. In Spanish we have an old saying which translates more or less: "For personal tastes ... the different colours were invented". Interesting to read anyway Kind regards, Abel

Maybe I should do that on my ExpII and GMT, it's a pain to set a TvinLock crown with crown guards.

As a young man, a wire caught under the edge of the crown of my supposedly "indestructible" watch and disemboweled the watch.
About the same time (mid 1960's), I first became aware of people in my line of work wearing watches with "crown guards." Regarding watches with crown guards in those days, allegedly, someone called my immediate supervisor and said "I have bunch of your boys over here causing trouble and I want you to come get them." My supervisor said, "what makes you call them 'my boys?'" To which the person on the other end of the phone responded, "I recognize them as 'your boys' because they have big watches and small _______." |

How about making it even more bespoke & cleaner, cut off the crown weld over the hole & polish. Then let the watch run down & just wait for the right date & time to come around & shake to get it moving again

Project x
I got an email from these guys notifying me about their "grand" website opening...no idea how they got my email though...anyways, I have seen the prices and they are crazy! Think £250 to remove the cyclops...can't you just do that yourself for free? Can't understand why anyone would want to remove the crown guard.

If I may,....whether you like the modifications or not on that site it is owned by one of the great collectors in the business.
Daniel is a straight shooter and a real gentleman. I believe this is an attemp to offer the customer a way to "build" a watch to his specs with modifications personnaly prefered. It's something that has been done by several others over the years. |

I like that idea I just wouldn't do it myself, as I don't have the patience.

Fair enough, I might mod a Citizen, but I spent too long dreaming about my GMT to muck around with it now.

I wouldn't do it. However, it gives some the option to be different, which can't be all that bad.

To me, it's butchery, but... I respect other's opinions and desires. If someone wants to do that to their Rolex, I can not stop them.
