Most weeks nothing, would say it averages out to 2 drinks a week over the entire year at most.

Never alone either. No desire to.

That adds up quickly.

I definitely used to drink more. Over the last 6 months - much less. Mainly weekends and no more than 2 glasses of wine/night (unless special occasion, then all bets are off)

I find going over that makes me unproductive following day (both mentally and physically) and I've done that way too much over the years:)

Time to grow up

This sums it up nicely for me and the wife.

If we're having a drink, it's because we're on vacation or out with friends. At home, we very rarely drink.

ZERO. Never was much of a drinker other than some beers with buds growing up. I haven't had any alcohol in 10 years or more. Got to have my Coffee in the morning though.

You have a problem and that comes from a lot of experience.

Very similar to you. I would typically have 2-3 large glasses of bourbon or scotch or wine each night. Never to the point of inebriation, just enough to “relax.” I realized just before thanksgiving that I had started to buy cheaper scotches because the better stuff was disappearing too quickly. That was a warning sign to me, and I haven’t had anything else since a TRF event last Sunday, actually. .

I’m not giving it up forever, but I won’t have anything else until Christmas. I want to reset my relationship with alcohol to go back to having 2-3 glasses one time per week instead of every night. I drank that way for many years and it worked very well for me.

My wife and I drink about a half bottle of wine with dinner every night.

Every so often when we get crazy, we’ll throw in a couple of Martinis (shocking I know)

EDIT: OP, if your wife thinks you might be drinking too much, then it’s worth exploring ... once the question is asked it’s hard to ignore

I think what matters more is the way alcohol affects you, not necessarily the quantity consumed. If someone drinks 6 drinks per evening but is under control I don’t think that’s any worse than someone who drinks 2 drinks and loses the ability to do what and think how they would like.

To answer your question though, i usually have 1-2 drinks on a weekday and 2-3 on a weekend.

If your wife/loved one is letting you know it’s getting excessive, and you are trying to rationalize your drinking on a forum. Might be time to take a step back and revaluate.

I didn't drink anything outside of when on vacation for 20 years due to being on call 24/7. Since retiring, I drink 1-2 beers a night a few days a weeks during the summer months. For some reason, I have no desire to consume beer when it's cold out. I have no interest is any other alcoholic beverages.

I'm certainly not here to judge another person, but since you asked an opinion, it sounds a little excessive to me. The last time a Dr asked me if I drank and I answered as I stated above, they somewhat acted like that was too much. I can't help to end this post with , how fitting.

You age and the length of the relationship marriage might shed light on it too. Have any of the comments in this thread been helpful to you?

I used to do a similar 'program' to you up to my early '50s.
One day a mate in the medical field said "You should give your system a rest a couple of days a week". That sounded sensible so I stopped drinking Mon to Thurs and immediately felt better and so have never resumed.
A mate and I had a couple of bottles of wine one evening (and sang some Karaoke) and the next morning his partner chided him for drinking too much.
I asked him "were we drunk?" answer "No".
"did you beat her after we left?" answer "No".
Then IMHO you are entitled to have a few drinks now and then.
My wife needs to tolerate the fact that I drink. I tolerate the fact that she doesn't.

How much alcohol do you drink per day?

Since you asked....

That’s a lot of alcohol in my book. Just because many others say they do an equivalent, shouldn’t rationalize it.

Your partner has picked up on it and then commented which should be sign enough.

I have 1-2 beers a week. Can go months without touching anything else. I’ve been known to finish a bottle of scotch over an evening.

I drink 2 double shots a night just before hitting the sack. Not too high nor low. Wife joins me from Friday to Sunday. Been doing it for more than 20 years. Been married for more than 20 years.

My doctor has been happy with all my lab results. Not taking any prescription meds except for my gout.

Wife and I run marathons.

What i am thinking as well. You may have a problem but still in denial ?

Zero user here, bad history with driver under influence who murdered family members.
Just because alcohol is a socially accepted drugs doesn’t make it less dangerous.

If someone was smoking weed 5 out of 7 days per week and couldn't go without for 2 days in a row, wouldn't they be classified as a stoner?

Drinking in moderation is like a tight rope walk. It’s not that easy to master alcohol like that, for most at least. Generally, it masters you. I drink twice a week and its not good I see

I suggest you read “Drink?” by Prof David Nutt. A fascinating read, after which you’ll be able to draw your own conclusions. He runs through the science in a very dispassionate way.

Just remembered an incident after reading some of the answers here, I said that I used to drink about 2 bottles of wine some time ago, I went into hospital for some reason and was asked the question of how much alcohol I drank by the nurse, she asked me if I wanted support to stop drinking so much.

During the week - I have a stiff double/ triple whiskey on a wed as a mid week treat. Apart from that don’t drink during week unless on holiday

Weekends - usually driving on a Friday night so sometimes a whiskey if back early enough
Sat - 2/ 3 doubles at night
sun - just the one double

That’s enough for me. During uk lockdown was doing on call every 2nd week but now back to one in 3. Also doing on call over Xmas. Have to be able to drive when on call so good excuse for staying off & earning at same time ;.)
