Are there even watch crimes in Tokyo? From what I’ve heard you’re pretty much safe wearing anything there.

I feel London is getting a bad rap here, probably by people who don’t know the place. On a week day there is probably 12m people here so you will have incidents, of all types. Also right now it’s about 12 degrees Celsius. What are you wearing if your gold watch is flashing everywhere? I have a jumper and a jacket on! Unless you have superhero powers, you can’t see it!
I agree with people who say take precautions. Use your head and you will be fine. So don’t be like a F1 driver and wear a £200k RM walking through the crowds to Wembley in mid summer! Asking for it.
I have always tended to wear my gold ones more in winter because they are seen less. I also wear watches on a strap more in winter for some reason. Probably due to sweating.
Engage brain and you should ok, even in bad psycho London! Probably one of the most visited cities in the world! By families, they are everywhere!!

Whilst it's nice to know I won't lose my shirt if I ever decided to sell, I almost wish the grey market would cool down. It's getting to the point I would rather wear steel but even with those there aren't many models people don't know. Wondered if anyone had similar experiences.
Well in the real world what's the point of buying expensive watches if you are going to be afraid to wear it .Again out of the millions of Rolex watches worn daily in most all countries world wide its a very tiny amount that gets noticed and stolen. Just use common sense when wearing dont go around with a sticker on forehead hey look at me I am wearing a expensive Rolex then no problems. But today most think Rolex watches are nothing more than ££$$€€ objects once they were watches to wear and enjoy.

That’s why I buy platinum, flies under the radar. Nobody notices my FP octa in plat or WG sub.

Wear what you want, accept the potential consequences..

Yellow or Rose gold does not run under the radar. You are screaming "look what I've got"

In answer to your question, Tokyo is relatively very safe....

THIS. It's is one of the reasons why I have continued to enjoy living in Tokyo for over 30 years. There is a very comfortable feel about living here because I can not only BUY my PPs, APs, VCs, DDs, Daytonas, Breguets,FPJs, etc. but also WEAR any of them anywhere and at any time without feeing self-conscious about what is on my wrist. I always have to tone down my wrist candy whenever I go to the States, Europe, and some Asian countries, having to decide which one(s) are safe to take and which ones need to stay home. In Asia, not only Tokyo but also Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia are fairly safe IMO.

Depends what you compare it to. It’s nothing like as bad as the recent stories coming out of NYC or Los Angeles for eg.
But it will be worse than Singapore, Malaysia,North Korea etc for reasons we can’t discuss.

London should be compared to large western metropolis’ not Far Eastern ones or cities. They have a different way of life, Covid reaction shows you that.

I hear horror stories about Houston and South LA but I never make comment about them because of I have never been so I don’t know what I am talking about!

You cannot be paranoid. If you have any objections, go on vacation for two weeks, rest, or work a little in the garden - you will relax.

If a stranger approached me and told me the value of my watch and that I should be careful I would respond, "That is how I got this watch, off a guy who would not mind his own business" Then I would add "What kind of watch do you have on?" Just kidding, not really. Situational awareness and discretion are a key in how we utilize our possessions. I typically stay out of shady areas and at off times but when I must, I try not to draw unwanted attention to myself. I am also always ready, should I need to be. You also can not account for bad luck but you can minimize the risks.

Everybody knows the value, thats why everybody also wants one and why its lucrative for robbers .

If your concerned wearing a certain watch, I would move it on and get something you will wear. You can be robbed anywhere at any time and watches are much more the target these days. No way to not worry if its a concern which takes the fun out of the whole thing.

Had One

I had a rose gold Daytona, but sold it. No remorse. At the end, I was scared that I would get mugged. Times are tough and I'm wearing that watch. I kept my SS Daytona, but my Smurf is my daily watch. I wear my President, without feeling the world is watching me, but prefer the white gold on Sub.

Yeah regardless of what we all say about this guy that made the comment, the point holds true to a certain extent.

My insurance policy has easily doubled in the past 2 years, which in it of itself kind of sucks, but more importantly, replacement or reimbursement is not the issue, physical and mental harm is the real concern.

Just be careful and try to make the smart decisions I guess.

I had a YG DD with black baguette dial that I sold simply because I became uncomfortable wearing it out a lot. And if you are not wearing it why have it? So I have asked my AD for a WG GMT II, simply to not be wearing such a 'loud' watch.

In the past week, we have all seen the news about gangs of thieves breaking into Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus, and LV in LA, NY, and chicago. I don’t even want to drive a nice car in chicago anymore. Not sure where our world is headed….

I had a gypsy kid straight up offer to fight me for for my Sub on Bond St in broad daylight recently. Would’ve been funny if my friend’s wife wasn’t knock unconscious during an attempted robbery of his Sub the week before.

It’s like wearing a vest made of thousand dollar bills. I mean the SS models in recent years are also bigger and shinier and attract similar attention too. I had a 10 year kid in my office recognize my 23 year old 16610 some time back. In the 90’s when I got it, wore it everywhere, never noticed and the SS models sat in the case. Those days are gone. I mean to some degree of one wants to be under the radar go GS. There is no such thing as under the radar Rolex with these 6 digit references and certainly not with anything gold.

Anymore, the little bit of domestic travel my wife and I are doing in the US, we are only wearing Seiko and Timex. Good solid interesting travel watches that hopefully won’t make us targets. We are senior citizens and despite being in shape and a life long martial arts practitioner, I want to avoid any compromising situation…

It all depend on where I go. If it's a country area then there's no issue with the Rolexes. I've got other watches that I've no issue wearing. My Platona is definitely getting less wrist time.

Where is the US headed?
Look to Haiti and El Salvador.
Europe, Australia, Japan, Russia and the Gulf States look at us as what NOT to do. Societal suicide.
