It does. You don't need the money and you still love it. Sometimes boredom kicks in and you don't appreciate what you've got. Then after it's gone, you realise how much you liked it. So if you sell it, you might regret it big time. You might miss it so much you'll want to buy it back, and lose money in the process.

As many have suggested, store it away for some time until you start missing it, if at all. If you do miss it, you'll be happy you didn't sell it. If you don't miss it after a long period of time (a few months), maybe it's okay to let it go.

The most important question is why you want to sell it. While we can all offer opinions presenting both sides of the argument, ultimately, you are the one to decide.
I would personally sell whatever made me question the reasons for owning it or its sale would unlock things more fun. If that ever proved to be a mistake, well, hindsight is always 20/20 and we all live and learn.

Whatever your life was before you sell will be your life afterward. I've had 6 and am down to one which is also on the chopping block. Maybe I get another one day, maybe not. It's just a watch. My 2 cents.

If you're on the fence about it, I'd keep it. Would likely end in regret.

If you did sell it you could get a TT Santos to go along with the Love and Trinity rings. The Santos is a fabulous watch!

Well, you're right, of course. It is no big deal. And it shouldn't be. It's just a watch, for goodness sakes.

So, the question is, does it have to be a big deal to own it?

My two cents, I'd keep it. You did say you loved it.

For me, I wouldn't sell since it's a beautiful watch and looks great on you. However, if it's not giving you that warm and fuzzy feeling and making you smile each time you check the time.....then it MIGHT be the right time to sell? As I'm sure you already know, owning a wearing a Rolex is not just about a tool to tell the time....it should give you joy and make you feel good about owning it. Maybe it doesn't do that anymore for you?

The question...."What's the big deal with owning a Rolex?" is definitely a valid one. Some people enjoy a certain hobby or experience for awhile. The excitement wears off and it's not a big deal anymore? Kinda like a been there, done that kinda thing? Nothing wrong with falling out of love with a hobby or experience and move onto new and different things?

I've heard lots of watch enthusiasts say that if they get a bit bored of their watch, to put it away for a few months. Take it out and start wearing it, and lots of times it will be exciting again! I think that might be a good test to see if you'll miss it later on down the road?

Good luck on whichever route you decide to take!

Lots of other watches out there..
Maybe that's a good idea. Maybe I should put it away for a while and see if I miss it. That could be a good test.

If I was to sell it, I was thinking of getting the Cartier Tank in SS. I've always loved that watch. But I do love the Rolex and like all have suggested, I might just put it away for a bit and see if I miss it. You all have been so wonderful with your advice and suggestions. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Like a lot of things in life it’s the chase and once the goal is achieved it can feel a bit deflating, best to wait a bit longer before deciding to sell or sell and start a new chase.

I think you nailed it right there. It's the chase and the desire to have a Rolex for so many years, that once I got it—although I was ecstatic—like someone else said, the honeymoon was over.

Beautiful Datejust... everyone's life conditions are different. Personally I've been wearing a watch since I was 10 years old, 50 years now and I've been wearing a Rolex for the last 44 years! I wouldn't sell any of my 12 Rolexes as they all have special meaning to me. I'm comfortable knowing that if I was ever in a tight situation I could sell my watches and make money on everyone of them. By the way that is a very unique dial on your DJ.

Is owning a Rolex _supposed_ to be a big deal? 5 years ago it was not, it was just a nice watch. Easy to buy, always a discount.

Keep things in perspective. The watch hasn't changed, only the hype. I'm keeping mine.

If you sell it, you won’t be able to get the enjoyment from seeing it on your wrist. Sure, it’s only a thing, and I hope there are people in your life that give you joy and love.

But you have this nice DateJust right here and now, with no appreciable upside to selling it. Be nice to yourself!!

Agree, if you need to be talked into keeping a watch you really don't want it.

Sell it and let someone who will love it own it.

Sell it…

Get a Cartier Tank, or even a Cartier Santos — it will go with your two rings.

Hi Suzy,
you shouldn't sell it.
What I see in the picture?
A very classy wrist, with two iconic (and beautiful) Cartier rings.
I would not buy a Cartier watch: either rings or watch, but not both, it would be too much.
It would sound like an advertisement, you need something that match well, but that at the same time it counterbalances the rings. And a Rolex is perfect.
The point is "which" one.
The one you have, is (almost) perfect. Very classy, it looks great on you beautiful wrist (congrats!).

If I had to choose among all the rolexes, and if somebody would ask me "choose a Rolex for this wrist", I would choose a two tone DJ (maybe 31), with mother of pearl dial.
Two tone because gold matches very well with rings (full gold would be too much), and MOP dial because it is very very classy.
Something like the one in the picture.
Yours? It is very close. Classy and not exaggerated.

What I would do? I would NOT sell it, because it fits very well on your beautiful wrist.
What I would not do? I would not buy a Cartier. They are very beautiful watches,
but if you have already Cartier rings, I Would not buy also the watch.
An example: if you see a tanned man, wearing a Rolex, with a Panama on the head, white shirt and a Hermes tie, probably you think he's an interesting man.
But if you see a man, wearing a Rolex on his wrist, with a Rolex hat and a Rolex tie you think: this is a salesman!
best!

That's a pic of my Wife's watch.
She absolutely loves it and according to her it is never going anywhere.
I note how this largely contrasts with Suzanne's sentiments about her watch.

If your not enjoying it, then sell it. It's just a watch. Wait for something you really like. If you even want to wear a watch.

Jewelry (luxury items) is about the way you feel when you wear it. My wife likes certain items that speak to her. It can range from inexpensive costume jewelry to expensive. It all means the same to her. And to add to that, she doesn't like Rolex for some reason.

Another well put perspective

I have a little test that works pretty well to help determine one's true sentiments.
It's the old flip a coin test.
It must only be done once and one must be prepared to search their feelings in respect of the outcome.

If the coin flip yields an outcome that doesn't resonate well with the sentiments that arise in the heart as a result. One should probably not go along with it at that point in time as the heart rules

Does she need, or want, to be talked in to keeping it or talked out of selling it? The OP says she really likes it, she looks at it and gets a good feeling. Her decision, but if that’s how she feels, there’s no downside to hanging on to it.

Besides, selling a watch for the average fan is no easy task
