Thinking of selling my one and only Rolex. Please stop me!

I've had my DJ for almost a year now (July), and although I love it, I sometimes think, what's the big deal with owning a Rolex? I know, I know, not exactly the forum to post such a comment. I just sold my vintage Rolex, which I have been wanting to sell for quite some time now, so I finally was able to sell it a few months ago, but now I'm thinking of selling my DJ, as well.

Should I do it? Will I regret this decision later? Am I crazy for thinking of possibly selling my one and only Rolex? So confused.

Need advice. HELP!

You are correct, you will regret it. Unless you absolutely need the money then I recommend not selling it.

Is there anything you want to buy with the money you get from selling? I personally think everybody should have a Rolex in their lives. It’s the most iconic brand out there and incredible value for money, while casually competing with high horology brands in terms of status.

No. Would probably just use it for bills, or whatever. Don't really need the money, per se, but could always use it, if you know what I mean. I only paid $5,500 for it (pre-owned) last year, so I know I wouldn't get anywhere near that back if I sell, which would really bother me.

Just my £0.02: If there is a doubt there is no doubt. This works with both buying and selling.

If you have to ask, you probably don't want to sell it, or at least you don't want to sell it enough, because you haven't already sold it.

Owning a Rolex is no big deal. Owning something that you love which represents an aspirational triumph is a big deal - regardless of brand.

If you don't want it you don't want it, but beware of potentially learning how much you want it the hard way.

I sold my explorer and sub… never really liked them that much in the end. No regrets so far… sometimes you don’t bond with a watch, even if it says Rolex on it

I'd hold on to it unless I really needed the funds. If not, it's hard to beat the value proposition. Oh, and as my AD told me: you can always turn a Rolex into $$$ if times get tough!

Your DJ looks beautiful! On Jubilee too....my personal favorite bracelet. As for selling, nobody can answer what the right decision is for you.....except YOU. We can only offer our opinions and what we would do in your case.

For me, I wouldn't sell since it's a beautiful watch and looks great on you. However, if it's not giving you that warm and fuzzy feeling and making you smile each time you check the time.....then it MIGHT be the right time to sell? As I'm sure you already know, owning a wearing a Rolex is not just about a tool to tell the time....it should give you joy and make you feel good about owning it. Maybe it doesn't do that anymore for you?

The question...."What's the big deal with owning a Rolex?" is definitely a valid one. Some people enjoy a certain hobby or experience for awhile. The excitement wears off and it's not a big deal anymore? Kinda like a been there, done that kinda thing? Nothing wrong with falling out of love with a hobby or experience and move onto new and different things?

I've heard lots of watch enthusiasts say that if they get a bit bored of their watch, to put it away for a few months. Take it out and start wearing it, and lots of times it will be exciting again! I think that might be a good test to see if you'll miss it later on down the road?

Honestly I’d sell it if you’re not feeling it…Before you do that, put it away and don’t wear it for awhile and see if you miss it. If you don’t, nothing wrong in letting it go.

Ask yourself why you bought it in the first place. If that "why" is gone, maybe it's time to sell it.

I've sold more over the years than I currently have, there is only one I kind of regret.

As others have stated, great watch in a beautiful configuration. Two thoughts for consideration. 1) Is there another watch you would rather have? You could always trade for something else. 2) Maybe lock your DJ away for a few months and see if you miss it?
Either way, maybe it is time to let it go if it feels like time.

You’ve just passed the honeymoon phase, that’s all! You’ve now entered the next phase of your relationship with it where you are comfortable with it and probably not so conscious about little scratches and dings, etc. just keep wearing it and enjoy it. Someday you’ll look down on your wrist and think, “wow I can’t believe I’ve had it x years!” Maybe there is someone you’d want to pass it down to later? If the day ever comes and you need the money you can almost always get back whatever you’ve paid for it, so there’s no risk in holding on to it. It’s a beautiful watch and I think it would be sad and miss you if you sold it. Just saying.

You guys speak the truth. I do love it. There’s no question there. I just feel like sometimes that it’s no big deal. But every time I look at it, I do love it. I have to admit. Maybe that answers my question?

I personally wouldn’t sell it, you won’t get what you paid for it so then to buy another one you’d be out of pocket too, but it all depends how much it means to you, I was very proud to be able to buy a Rolex it was a big investment for me and symbolised a momentous part of my life, now the bug has hit and waiting for number 4.

Maybe, just maybe it is not the owning a Rolex you are not enamored with, but possibly they model(?). I suggest you take a look around at possibly a different one, a sub, or different DJ or ?

Go buy whatever you think you'd wear instead (or if it's nothing, wear nothing)

Put your watch in a drawer for a month. Don't even look at it during this time period - it must be completely gone/dead to you.

In a month, put it on. It will either be a wave of relief to have it back, or you'll know you can move it on if you feel nothing
