If money wasn't a concern for me.....I would still personally prefer the steel.

If Money is no issue we shouldn’t even be having this convo ha. The platium is such a special watch. Or go for the white dial and a platinum day date even better like one member said.

Since they’re opening up the vault, you might as well get the Le Mans

I considered colored gold but they don't really speak to me. I'm more a white color metal person. The white gold version of the new generation doesn't speak to me yet. And I'm not into the LE mans

Not a bad idea. I'm fortunate to have the models you have listed so unless I'm about flipping I probably won't get more of the same models. Platinum rolex is a box I haven't checked

I feel I can get the stainless steel down the road if I really want. Logically I have to believe buying a platinum daytona from an AD is harder than the steel version |

There is no choice here. If you can afford that platinum, hands down you take it!

Buy the Panda and flip it. Use the profit towards a platona on the grey market. You will be in profit

There’s not a single situation or occasion in my life where I’d feel comfortable wearing an $80,000 watch. So, SS for me.

OP, if you were in love with the platinum, you would have already made up your mind. I’d follow EEpro’s advice. |

What an odd offer.
Surely if you're being offered a platinum, then you've a spend-history and consequent experience that leaves you way beyond asking the forum whether we'd chose platinum or SS. |

If the price difference is a non issue, platinum all the way.

I was initially looking for a white 116500 Daytona. I got tired of waiting and fell for the platinum one. TBH, unless I am in strong sunlight, the bezel doesn't look brown, although I am fine with it when it does look brown. The blue dial is, to me, beautiful and the weight is something I really enjoy and appreciate. Of course, some people think the weight is uncomfortable, although I am not sure if that opinion is shared by people who own a platinum Rolex or just those who try one on for 3 minutes at an AD.
I wear mine daily, so the big price premium doesn't seem quite so bad as it's not just a watch I pull out for special occasions. Also, when I got mine at the end of 2016, the platinum was mid 40s rather than 80. If I could have gotten a white SS one back then from an AD, I would have. Do I regret buying the platinum version? Not for a minute. It's one of my favorite purchases ever. Would I have been happy with the white one? I am quite sure I would have absolutely loved it. But it is hard to really say that the platinum one is worth a 2.5-3x multiple vs. the SS one at 2016 premiums/discounts. I guess I would say if you are going to daily it, or have money to burn, the platinum is a great choice if you like the weight of platinum and the color of the dial/bezel. If it's one of many, the ceramic SS Daytonas are fantastic to my eye in terms of beauty and wearability.

I would ask your AD, which of the two is “harder” for the AD / you to get ?
Then, take whichever is the hardest to get … then, once you own it, wait 3 months, then ask your AD for the other one (the “easier” of the two to get). PS … For those above questioning the Brown Bezel … how good would this watch look with a Navy Blue Bezel !!??? Platinum Case, Bracelet / Ice Blue Dial / Navy Blue Bezel … Wowza !!! Dear Rolex … Navy Blue Bezel = WOWZA !!! Brown Bezel = That Ice Blue Dial is so special / beautiful, that I want that watch, even though it has a Brown Bezel. |

If given the option, I'd choose the WG LeMans edition. Still get the sapphire caseback and I like the dial layout the best of all Daytonas

No question here. Get the SS model. Far more wearable and as said above the novelty of the platinum wears off quick.

You made a good choice for sure, Platinum is a good choice unless there's a diamond dial in your options, which I know there's not.

I love platinum but the number vs the steel is hard to justify. I love both but platinum is just special…my DD is a daily wearer now despite Patek, Pepsis and others in the stable. I am a bigger DD fan though than a Daytona one. I rarely wear mine.

Love it but to my eyes the SS is WAY better on the eyes.

Platinum if money isn’t an issue. It’s special. And actually harder to obtain than the SS model.

Platona. Weird question though. Money usually is a factor, but I suppose not for you. Excellent choice.

Cmon, not everyone does or wants to do this sort of stuff. I’m guessing the fact that he is offered such watches means he is not a flipper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
