Platinum or Stainless Steel Daytona

My allocation is coming up and my AD told me I have to choose between the platinum and the steel version in any color. Leaning towards platinum as I like to have a display case back. Understand the price is like 5 times more.

How would you choose?

Platinum is very very special, I do like the diamond dial the most.

However regarding the Daytona, unless Pt really is your thing and you are obsessed with it, I’d rather have the steel white dial Daytona. That thing just disappears on the wrist, extremely comfortable, wears well in the heat, can be worn loose without flopping around. I do own 3 PM Daytonas and all of them need to be carefully sized as I dislike them moving around too much.

Pt is crazy heavy. Plus for the money I’d rather buy a PC Patek, world time, Lange or similar. I’d rather have a Pt DD before a Pt Daytona. Not that I don’t admire them, I do, very much. Just not for me. I know there are owners here who don’t share this view which is fine so you just have to get what’s right for you.

If the Le Mans is an option that’s a big win. A good weight, look and everything.

Platinum or Stainless Steel Daytona

There is a huuuge price difference that makes it very hard to comparison shop the two.

If money was not an issue at all, then of course Platinum.

Personally, if I’m paying, I’d probably “setttle” for the SS.

Platinum for sure. I’ve had the stainless a few times and always move on. If I get the platinum it’s a keeper.

Not a big Daytona guy in general but I just can’t get over the brown bezel with that light blue face on the platinum. I know it’s a lot of people’s grail watch, but I’m really not a fan. There are soo many other PM watches I’d keep powder dry for and just go for a stainless version for the Daytona. I’m probably in the minority though.

I had the platinum daytona and my experience is that it feels very special for some time but novelty wears off fairly quickly.

The color combo does look odd but don't make the watch ugly to me. I think they want to differentiate with the stainless steel models yet they don't want to make the colors too exceptional

Interesting. Is it becsuse the metal color is similar? I'm hoping the display case back makes a difference

Old school metal bezel with that blue face would’ve been a cleaner look imo. Maybe they can’t do that bc the platinum is too difficult to work with.

Brown is my least favorite color and the reason I have no interest in either CHNR.

That said, the PT Daytona bezel does not look brown to me. I didn’t even realize it was brown the first couple times I saw it. To me, it looks more like a faded black or charcoal. Not brown.

If it did look brown, then I couldn’t possibly like it, and I absolutely love the PT Daytona.

See, complete opposite for me. Brown makes so much more sense on the CHNR with rose gold than it does with a grey colored metal like platinum… just my opinion.

I get it.

I just don’t like the color brown at all. My dislike for the CHNR is due to how brown it is. Not the color combo.

I’m just saying, to my eyes, I don’t really see brown when looking at the PT Daytona bezel. Maybe a bit when it’s in direct sunlight but I still feel like it looks more like a faded black than a brown.

I’ve also never heard anyone else say the same thing about not seeing a true brown on the PT Daytona, so maybe I’m just a color blind crazy person!

If money isn't an issue, you simply need to get what speaks to you the most. What speaks to me may not speak to you. I may like the brown bezel, you may not, etc. etc.. Don't let anyone else talk you into something that YOU don't resonate with. Heck, I don't even ask my wife for opinions on what to buy as what she likes may not be what I like. A watch has to speak to ME, not what it speaks to others. Sorry, but only you can make that decision.

If you like brown yeah platona. If not I'd take a black ss Daytona. Honestly you can do so much more watches with that 80k platona money.

I don’t care for the colorway on the Platinum, so that would be out for me. Just asking, why not gold - WG or YG?

Platinum or Stainless Steel Daytona

Get the 126500. With the $ saved you can get about every species of steel sports Rolex as well.

Is Platona better than:

White Daytona
Blue Sky-Dweller
Green Submariner
Pepsi GMT

And a trip to Vegas.

This ^^

Thought the same before I got to this comment.

Further, to the above point, it isn't a 1:1 decision. Do you like the $75k plat more than the $15k SS? If so get it. Do you like the white dial SS more than the plat and the ability to keep $60k in your pocket? If so, do it.

I personally like the white dial 116500 over the platinum, but I have various reasons. Not to mention I'm not dropping $100k on a watch.

Get the SS white dial Daytona and a fluted bezel platinum DD (36mm or 40mm) …
