This photo was taken 7 years ago but I'm not wearing this watch today (cause I'm at work). This is my favorite "beater" watch.

I've worn it while mountaineering:
  • summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania (19,341 ft/5,895m)
  • summit of Mt. Rainier in Washington (14,411 ft/4,392m)
  • summit of Mt. Elbrus in Russia (18,510 ft/5,642m)
  • summit of Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina (22,841 ft/6,961m)
  • summit of the Grand Teton in Wyoming (13,775 ft/4,198m)
  • basic mountaineering in Antarctica (with no prominent summit)

I've worn it canyoneering in Maui, rappelling off of multiple waterfalls.
I've worn it sailing in Bali.
I've worn it running with the bulls in Pamplona Spain.
I've worn it scuba diving in Hawaii.
I've worn it snorkeling in the Silfra Fissure (tectonic plates between North America and Eurasia) in Iceland....

....and I've worn it doing a ton of other things all over the world. This watch has been with me everywhere. It's a lot more beat up looking now than in this picture but it's still going strong. To be honest, I sort of want it to break or die so I can justify buying an updated version but this thing refuses to crap out on me.

I like to call the Ranger a beater being a no frills plain and simple three hander and I wear it for such but it doesn't really get beat up.

When I’m into rough stuff, it’s typically my 5513. However, I wear my DD36 for practically everything and 90% of the time.

Guess it doesn't fall into the beater category the same way a G Shock would, but the watch I throw on and have zero worry about banging around is my Tag Aquaracer Chrono

I think we have many very different ideas of what a beater watch is. That's to be expected, Rolex appeals to a wide range of the population. Seeing a number of highly polished (and still flawless) watches only makes the differences even more apparent.

If I am going to do some maintenance on some lawn equipment, move some landscape rocks around or something like that I know two things are guaranteed. 1) at some point I will be bleeding, and 2) at some point I will damage my watch to some degree.

I wouldn't wear a really nice watch to do that any more than I would wear a custom made white dress shirt and $500 loafers for those activities. I have this Seiko SBDC051 Prospex diver. I have other watches in between a $500 Seiko and a $10,000 Rolex but I wouldn't call my Omega Seamaster a beater just because I wear it to a BBQ.

I don't really have a beater, per se, but I do have some watches that fit that category, as others define it.

This is a recent acquistion.

Favorite Beater Watch

OP here.

Nicely said. I think there are conditions where one doesn’t feel comfortable wearing a five digit “tool” Rolex on their wrist, let alone an inflated six digit reference.

I bought my vintage Seiko in Japan and love the faded bezel. It is my $200 “beater” watch that I think is still cool AF.

Since this is a mix, this thread will be best parked at non-rolex general. Nonetheless, mine is a Black bay 58 in office and G-shock in out field works.

Congrats on the pick up. Could you tell me what the purpose of the bezel is on the PO1? It’s obviously not a gmt, doesn’t appear to be a dive bezel.

Not really a beater but something I strap on when there’s any doubts.
