proportions look great on the new explorer. I think it looks great on a big wrist, it's a classic aesthetic with all the functional perks of the modern Rolex. Can't wait for one myself!

It looked like you are wearing your kid's watch.

Looks great. I don’t think the whole watch face/case should take up most of the wrist.
I know several tall (over 6’) men who wear a classic 36mm Rolex (DJ and also YG DD) and the watch looks just fine. Part of it depends on how much you want your watch to stand out or blend in. Nothing wrong with either (women can wear a chain necklace or what is actually called a “statement necklace,” depending on the look the woman is going for). Enjoy! |

As far as the size of the Explorer, it’s obviously subjective. With that said the tuna can sized watches of ten years ago have become smaller. The interest in vintage watches has probably contributed to smaller sized watches. |

It looks small but perfectly fine in this photo….. the close ups with the wide iPhone lens don’t do sizing discussions any favors. I imagine with your wrist size it’s going to come down to one being classically smaller sized and one being modern sport watch sized….. your personal taste and how you want to watch to look and feel will decide it for you. I love the MKII but I’m leaning toward the 124270 for its upgrades and smaller dial. In a lot of ways it’s proportions are similar to the MKII , just a smaller package. I do prefer the handset proportions and the lack of negative space on the dial. Keep the owner ship reports coming, I appreciate the perspective …… it’s not the slam dunk easy winner that 6 or 6.5 inch wrists seem to be making when choosing the newer model. Here’s the new 36mm on my 6.5” wrist. Absolutely love it. Most comfortable watch I’ve worn.

I like the 39mm better, but the hands should be a tad fatter on it.

This IS Rolex's best watch. Maybe not the "coolest" or "flashiest" but to please the owner. It's straight up awesome.

I’m sorry to report this personal opinion to those who love the new Explorer, but I was in central Tokyo yesterday and I tried on a new 36 mm stainless steel Explorer and I was very disappointed. I already own a 39 mm Explorer, the fully-lumed version. I was wearing a Day-Date 40 yesterday. Anyway, my wrist is 7” exactly. I had seen the new Explorer in multiple settings in real life where at times it looked very small and at other times looked larger, but this was my first time to hold and wear the new model. I had a previous experience with an earlier 36 mm version I wore for a week or so a few years ago. That had been a positive experience, so I was hopeful about the new version. The older model looked smaller than my regular watches, but I still enjoyed wearing it because it felt like the older 36 mm watches I had worn earlier. Yesterday, however, I was shocked at how small the new Explorer felt in my hand, and when I put it on my wrist, it seemed tiny. Even the young female Japanese sales representative remarked it was very small for me; not a good choice. At first, I couldn’t reconcile the reality I saw with the videos I’ve seen, but then I recalled watches often appear larger in photos and videos. Anyway, the more I looked at it on my arm, the more I realized the biggest difference between the watch I had on and the watch I wore for a week a few years ago was the bracelet. It just seemed very small to me, which is counterintuitive since it is presumably heavier and better made than the old bracelets. The new slimming and tapering of the bracelet, however, completely changed my perception of the watch. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any photos in the store. On a more positive note, I tried on a new model Polar Explorer and I was immediately in love with the new watch. I had owned a 42 mm Polar before, but it felt a bit large for me. The new version seemed much slimmer and fit much better on my wrist. It felt like a different watch to me.
I suppose the common element for me in both experiences is that sometimes subtle design changes can have the biggest impacts from a personal perspective. |

Thank you for the feedback Otto. I have a similar size wrist and am very much looking forward to seeing the new Polar in person. The matte indices are appealing to me, as well as the trimmer lugs.

Perfect size for this watch. This is how it was designed originally for a reason. Good to see that Rolex is willing to go against fashion trends. This one is on my shortlist.

We should be happy people like different size watches, different colors, different complications, or else that wait list for the very same watch everyone loves just got even longer.
