I think you better have it checked out. I wouldn't put it past him, given how he is acting.

If I'm reading this correctly there is some good news.

It sounds so far that you got the watch you set out to get. Yes you got your pants pulled down on the warranty but you've only lost a portion of the I've year warranty.

It might not sound like good news but you have a functioning watch with an operational warranty and I assume the condition is OK. In paper, it is worth less because the warranty started some months back but as long as it proves to be real, you have escaped the worst of what can happen when people buy Rolex without lots of experience.

I'd be inclined to get it authenticated and carry on and enjoy it without that 'friend' in your life. Don't get to a point where every time you look at it you get mad, that's not going to work.

With that being said, if the watch has been a safe queen with zero scratches I wouldn't get too worked up. Since you apparently trust the watch to be genuine. Granted you have lost a year of the full warranty, but with the Rolex quality you most likely won't need the full 5-year warranty any way.
At this point, it's not really just about the watch, is it? He didn't think his "friend" was honest, called him out on it and now lost a "friend".

I second that. On the other hand stories like this one make me very confident that we can get back to discussing watches some time in the near future.

I think your friend used you to sell his old watch and then, have the money to think about his next plan with his AD and also got 500 bucks outta your own pocket thinking he did you a favor, which is not what it looks like.......I don't think this is a very good friend at all, he's not been really honest with you at all

from reading your story, i would also assume it's a fake rolex, you better have it authenticated from an AD or the rolex service center.

it is simple
1) you will never get a ss daytona from AD
2) your so called "firend" just sell you his unwant rolex to you at MSRP plus 500
3) he is not your real friend

Karma has a way of catching up to people like your friend. You are not the only person he has taken advantage of in life.
Enjoy your watch. The transaction probably leaves a bad taste but you acted in good faith and haven’t lost that much really. If the watch doesn’t show wear, you might have saved a few bucks versus MSRP + tax at an AD. You lost some warranty but there is a high likelihood you would never use the warranty anyways. Out of all my Rolex, I have only ever used the warranty on 1 and that was within the first 6 months of ownership.

Sadly as others have mentioned, the card is completed on the sale and the card would arrive with the watch not months before the watch.

Not sure you friend is being very honest

Near 100 responses and no photo. Come on, guys. I assume OP referencing 126655

It’s a great watch and OP bought it at retail. I don’t see a problem here. The ONLY real problem is the watch currently dipping below list. Hence, this thread.

My stock broker was my best-friend last year. Adrian, you are dead to me!! Elon and Zuck are also off my Xmas list.

the real problem is OP's friend lied to him about the warranty card date when selling his watch, dont you see?

Your 'friend' played you very well. You could have bought the watch at MSRP relatively quickly at your AD in Chicago and have a real chance on getting a SS Daytona.

Instead, you paid for dinner and either helped your friend with his AD spending (and not yours) or bought one of his old watch to his advantage (as other have said, this watch is at/under retail now)

Getting a watch was a happy thing and all got ruined now. I wish all has never happened or I didn't know about the warranty card and receipt issue. All I can learn is that I won't have large transactions with friends anymore, and I feel miserable about this experience as well as myself.
I guess this is the adult world.
I’m sorry to hear this has happened. I even registered an account here to post this. Honestly, how I have read this it appears your “friend” is a narcissist who has gaslit both you before and after the transaction. This is not an insult to your friend but a pure observation of people who do commonly exist in the world.

At least it is a real watch

Visited a local Dealer, and SA said it was probably a real Rolex. It would take 2 weeks for a thorough authentication (open the watch and check the parts), so I decided not to bother with it. I appreciate everyone's insights and advice! Anyway, I am going to keep the watch and let it go. As for the friend thing, I consider that as a lesson.

I decided just wait and see what happens.
About 1 month later, my friend told me he got an allocation for a rose gold black dia 40 Yacht-Master, and he asked me if I liked it. He said he could buy and send it to me if I pay him the price plus 500 for dinner with the SA. I accepted the offer, but after I sent him the money he told me the warranty card would be from last year Sep since he paid when he got into the waitlist, and SA charged to put him on a "real" waitlist.
I don't think he would give me a fake watch because we have known each other for years and we work in the same company, but I feel I get fooled that he just sold me one of his old watches that he hardly wears. What are your guys opinions?
Correct. Not a new watch.

A few years ago I was offered an OF Daytona at a Rolex AD in Brazil (they don’t sell used Rolexes). The catch was that the card was pre-filled with an earlier date.

The reason was that the AD mistakenly filled in the warranty card before the credit card machine cleared the transaction. The original person who was going to buy the watch didn’t have the funds in the end. The watch then sat at the AD unused but no one bought it (I didn’t either).

So, it was technically a “used” watch, but new otherwise as it never left the AD’s safe. Maybe something similar happened to yours? Worth asking the real story to the AD manager? Possible to save the friendship? Maybe some miscommunication?

If not, move on. I have lost “friends” in the past and whilst it hurts, you’re better off without some folks in your life. x

I have had incredible luck in Arlington Heights. AD-Heather. Not sure about Daytona but may be worth it to stop in and meet her. They have been incredible to me there.

Yeah, the friend thing is a much bigger concern than the watch, unfortunately. Sounded like a ploy to go on an expensive date with his SA...or pocket $500.

I wouldn't be okay with "probably". Is it just the two weeks wait that made you not bother? Not knowing for sure would drive me nuts.

No comment on the friend. The AD telling you a year on a SS Daytona is a play. They don't want you to go grey, but instead give you just enough hope to get the Daytona and buy some favor so you'll keep checking in and buy other things while you "wait." Move on from that AD.
