[QUOTE=Devildog;13532420]He didn’t ask for advice. Or opinions on his life choices. Or what to do with the watch.

He simply asked for opinions on the impact on value of removing the factory stickers from an unworn example of on of Rolex’s historically most sought after watch.

Notwithstanding any of that, if someone asks for advice, criticism has no place as a response.

Opinions, yes. But not criticism.

Had he asked - what’s your opinion of my keeping the watch untouched in a safe, then that’s an open invitation for all sorts of criticism.

But that’s not what he did.

So no, you should not expect criticism when asking for advice (or asking for forum members’ opinion on value as the OP did here).

I believe you and I would get along quite well.

While this makes total sense, the market has generally allowed NOS from collectors if it’s truly unworn.

Yup. Don't insult the dude for not wearing it. This is no different than a guy with a super low-mileage 997.2 GT3RS only driving it to Cars and Coffee. I get bugged by people saying "that car is made to be driven". I say go you. Plus I can appreciate seeing one almost "in the wrapper".

I try to find new old stock stuff, whether it's vacuum tubes, stereo equipment, or watches. I can enjoy them without them playing music or being on my wrist.

I appreciate your well thought out "criticism" of my post. As I said, people can do as they choose, but expect "differing opinions" (maybe a better way to phrase it) when you put it out there. Based on the last handful of your responses, a few could easily be seen as criticism, including this one, so be careful throwing those stones.
Maybe we could all be a little less sensitive 🤔 cheers to you.

He’s going to get what he gets. In this case a 10k mistake. Could have sold it nos, bought a brilliant example and pocketed 10k. Owning NOS watches is about the dumbest idea someone can have if they plan on wearing it. To be the first to wear is so odd when buying neo vintage watches to actually wear .

" if they plan on wearing it "

Yeah that sums it up...

Thanks for your input.

I generally live by your rules. In life I have come across people with so much damn money they can’t use all their toys. Some are just collectibles. I don’t have that kind of money but when I take a step back and see how much time they have for free time (sometimes not a lot) and how much money they have for hobbies (an enormous amount) I get it.
