It reminds me of an old adage told to me by a military friend many years ago. What would you loan to your best friend? His response, "My toothbrush, yes. My wife maybe. My knife, never!" I would add Rolex to knife. They are both extremely personal. |

Nope!... First and last time I ever let any friend handle any of my watches... Even my Casio G shocks.
Had a bone head friend handle my DJ a long time ago. Instead of handing it back to me, he slid it back to me on top of a cement table bench...Really?! Really!??... Good thing he was a good friend. So, NO! For me. |

My Nephew age 42 had a big presentation to a group of potential customers and asked to borrow my YG DD.
It must have given him the extra confidence he needed because he got a big client. Did the DD do it? Probably not but he thinks it impressed the client. Of course now he is hinting to me about willing him my Rollies.. |

I would never let my friends wear my Sub. I just don't think they would respect it. I have let my brother wear it for a few hours as I'm trying to get him more into watches

If it was a close friend and they asked, I would gladly oblige. Most have their own, or don't care. My family members could care less about watches!

my mother has said a few times that she would like to wear my vintage tissot bumper from time to time. once i get the watch fully overhauled and its in perfect working order(the second hand will sometimes get stuck on the minute hand) i have no problem with that.

I would let a friend or family member wear my Datejust, but I'm afraid to say definitely not my Day Date, I think that is reasonable.

Why not? Most of my friends have much nicer watches than me.
My father once asked me to exchange his 30 years old TT DJ with my new TT GMT, I doubted not because of the value, but the DJ looks so old on me! |

Overnight or for prolonged periods? No. The girlfriend liked it when we we're on a time schedule, and I said "Here, you keep the time", and handed her my new-to-me vintage Rolex. (She has no idea how long I've had it, just thought it was really cool.

Friends, no.
If I was married and had older sons and a few Rolxes (only have two at the moment) I would let them wear mine on special occasions. My dad allowed me to wear his vintage Air King with riveted bracelet for a while when I was in college and beyond. My first boss when I graduated wore a a Submariner that was given to him for building an undersea lab in the North Pole. Both of them inspired me to see that the only watch I should ever own is a Rolex. Incidently I offered to buy my Boss's Sub, as he had a current one as well. He declined, saying he wanted it to his son. He was a great guy, true explorer, even though he called himself a Druid. Just found out a few weeks ago that he passed on, it had been many years since I had seen or worked for him. Rest in peace Birger Andersen hope your son wears the sub well! |

Regretfully....no. I would never personally ask for such a favor either. Some years ago a close friend asked to borrow my 1-year old Date for a job interview and I said no. He was not pleased but got over it eventually. BTW, he got the job anyway.

For the time being, my inclination would be to say no. Who knows, things and circumstances change everything. Never say never...
