Haha I don't know, there's a good handful of people on page one that didn't get the memo.

So even as we see Apple gain more and more market share, this Insta effect makes Veblen goods even more desirable.
I think you are 100% correct. Young/ New wealth has zero patience and Rolex feeds on media like Instagram are very clever at ramping up desire.

Increased desire and restricted supply - - I just wish they would hurry up and get on with the (rumoured) price increase. It might free up supply. The pent up demand will take a while to settle so the quicker they get on with it all the better IMO. I was in WOS/ Glasgow yesterday. Not a SS Sports watch in sight and it's been the same for the last 18mo.

Slightly embarrassed to admit I had to google Veblen goods. Every day is a school day.

I wouldn't be embarrassed John, means you're purer than the rest of us.

Not to mention, that was when the SD was 40mm. The size of this one is going to take a ton of buyers completely out of the equation from the get go.

If this SD follows suit like the previous, that's going to be a tough pill to swallow if you paid $15k for it in the past couple months
One the other hand - SD43 gets lots of buyers who think sub is too small. And I think they are more than we know.

"Super-sub" - but still manageable compared to deepsea.

Therefor I think the SD43 will sell more than SD ever sold.

Agreed.

I had the previous SD4K and now own the newer SD43.

Chalk and Cheese. So different they are almost pen pals.

...and the SD4K was just not a comfortable fit on my wrist. By comparison the new kid on the block is perfectly at home.

SD43 all the way

I picked up the new SD43 over the weekend from my AD - where I got a 5% discount from MSRP.

I absolutely love it as it's a little bigger than my Hulk and I love how it fits me. Probably not for everyone, but for me it's a great fit! I was actually going to get a Daytona until I tried one on and was underwhelmed by the size.

I am not a fan of PCL and have had a SD since 1997. This is the perfect watch for me.

Still can't find these watch at any of the ADs. Not sure where you see the price dropping "fast".. I just got this watch and IMO, it's one of the best looking watches Rolex produced, especially for people who like modern style watches.
It's also the most accurate automatic watch I owned. After 1 week, only 1 second difference. It's an awesome watch and it doesn't wear as big some people say.

Funny reading this. Yeah those prices are dropping quick huh! Last time I checked on David's site the SD43 was selling for nearly $2,000 more than I paid when I bought it from him 15 months ago. Glad I didn't wait for the magical call from an AD

Plus 1.
I love my hulk but the SD43 is in my opinion the coolest Rolex of the line. Very comfortable for its size, and it has a ton of entertaining wrist presence. I think as more people are able to get these, and actually try them out the SD 43 will probably gain popularity.

I just opened this thread and thought "damn, I must have bought at the top of the market"

Then I noticed the date.

Love my SD43, glad I got it retail. Getting a discount on it soon you are reaching, especially since barely any AD have SS models to stock.

Once Rolex makes a significant change to this model there will be another thread about peoples regrets on not buying it. Classic ups and downs of a model.

? MSRP is a good price for this watch. It is still going for a premium 2 years later.

Not to mention the MK II Dials are now hitting ADs. The real Anniversary is the MK I Dial.

"I am sure many here are aware of this but for those who are not, I thought I would just share that patience will pay off soon on the SD43"

I guess patience or the lack thereof is a matter of perspective

I got the first one my AD received at release. At the time I hesitated because I truly believed they'd be readily available at decent discount in less than a year. Glad my irrational side prevailed and I didn't pass....

+20% in less than two years since purchase (22 months to be precise), not bad at all. I know it's got an oyster perpetual 3235 but I don't expect it to gain another 10% every year to perpetuity. Who cares, I'm not going to sell it, love the piece to bits. My YM tanked 28.5% from retail in 4 years. Luckily I didn't pay retail but even if I did, I'd still be very happy with the purchase.

Agreed - SD43 is easy to get but it’s normal as the market is smaller when compare to a 40mm watch - that’s the reason the prices are dropping on the SD43 - it’s a cool watch tho

Actually it's less than 3 years, more like 2 / 2 1/2 years tops... But yes you are right it has gone up at least 20% this past year. The 116600 is a great watch as well, one of my favorite to wear.

the SD43 and Deepsea are much more interesting alternatives than the generic black submariner IMHO

Im suprised people like the black sub so much. When I see one I autoassume it's a fake like the signature interlocking GG belt of Gucci.

I strongly suspect that many people assume the SD43 is going to be too big without giving it a chance - after all what’s not to like given it combines the proportions of 5-digit Rolex divers with 6-digit bracelet construction and clasp technology? Whilst it’s a big watch, it wears smaller than its 43mm. On the other hand the Sub wears bigger than a typical 40mm watch. Ultimately I imagine there are few people whose wrists support a Sub who wouldn’t look good wearing an SD43.

I’m happy that it’s less ubiquitous than the Sub though, less chance of bumping into someone wearing the same watch.
