I love it, I love that Rolex has the balls to come out with the biggest and baddest dive watch on the planet.. I love that Rolex is pushing the envelope with the deepsea and the lefty GMT for that matter.. this is why i love the brand!!

As has been said above, Rolex did this because they could.

It may be huge (although its only 2.5mm thicker and 3mm longer lug to lug than my GWF-A1000 G Shock Frogman which is easily wearable on smaller wrists) but it blows Omega's Ultra Deep away on its depth rating.

It will be lighter than a 44mm Deep Sea too, by some margin I suspect.

Fair play to Rolex. If the Deep Sea is a technological tour de force this is another level

Omegas ultra deep goes to 6000m. That’s… nearly 4 miles. So who cares if Rolex wins the depth rating? Honestly I could see myself considering the Omega as my one huge watch in the future. Could never see this Rolex, even if the price wasn’t ridiculous

Why are any of us earnestly posting a link to one of the most infamous and dishonest fanboy sites? I remember reading the conspiracy theory there about a decade ago about the corruption that allowed Omega to pretend to have made a moon watch.

Omega has done many distasteful marketing campaigns but the historical record about the watch trials and Speedy's selection is ironclad; if anything, the pressure was to drop Omega due to lobbying from domestic competitors.

This (release, not the development, which of course goes back to the Deepsea Challenge and the original Challenge way back) seems pretty clearly a response to the Ultra Deep, which is itself interesting. Are we entering an era of more robust back-and-forth competition?

This is both an absurd and beautiful watch. Glad to see chamfered lugs back; I hope those come back to other Rolexes soon. I'm a bit surprised by keeping the Deepsea's tiny dial; I would have expected them to go full PloProf with it. (And PloProf is the real equivalent here, I think.) The matte dial is another highlight, even though I think the dial itself is too small; I'm really glad to see it back and hope this signals that it will come to other models.

Any chance Rolex is throwing down a “challenge” with this release? Throw on some scuba gear and a wetsuit, strap this piece on your wrist, and use the watch as it’s intended. No more wearing it while sitting behind a desk. Get out there and use it.

It’s the only thing that would make this watch exciting for me . “ i know it’s a little big, but i like it”. While they wear a dress shirt and jacket and can’t roll the cuff over the watch lol.

I’d be surprised. They’ve said 30% less than the experimental 2012 Deepsea Challenge and that was full steel and even bigger.

This is an absolutely ridiculous and comically stupid watch from Rolex.

An unwearable hunk of titanium that doesn't advance engineering or innovation. They just made a gigantic hunk of metal and put a movement in it. Big deal.

50mm and 23mm thick. Exactly why was this even necessary.

It's odd that Rolex would be the one with the knee jerk reaction to another watchmaker's product.

Had they come out with a titanium Yachtmaster like the prototype they showed during the America's Cup, that would be an instant Rolex milestone.

This is more like the Fred Flintstone of Rolex watches.

Why make this watch?

It's really only for Rolex showrooms and museums. I don't see anyone will actually buy for wearing.

This watch is to Divers what the X-15 was to aircraft - a proof of concept, an exploration, a demonstration. It likely never be surpassed.

Right on the nose. Next version of a SS Daytona will sport an MSRP of at least 25K. It's about time I'd say.
