Now now. Don't deprave the others from enjoying them.
When one makes enough to afford a $10,000+ luxury watch, yet does not have the wits to be self-aware...that is exactly what makes for great travel stories.

Why are you embarrassed? The OP asked for opinions and that's what is being offered.

Yes, I clearly stated it is my wife’s concern, not mine. I really wonder if these angry people calling for my head are bothering to even read the post? :)

Read my replies. Don't feel forced into bringing it and feeling uncomfortable due to everyone on here giving you grief and pushing you to do it. It's only a watch and if wearing an expensive watch in Mexico makes either you or your wife feel uneasy, just leave the damn thing at home. I wore a cheap digital watch last time I was there and it was great. Wasn't sweating wearing it, wasn't worried about where I put it at night, wasn't concerned if I should bring when going downtown or on a fishing trip. Leaving it at home can set your mind at ease and let you enjoy your trip. No reason to bring it and worry your significant other or yourself

I am going to Hard Rock in Maya Riviera in July and I will bring sd43. It’s my travel watch. If you are on resort, wear it. Take it off and put it in your pocket if you venture out. I wouldn’t put it in hotel safe. Not safe at all

I Mexico, they won’t barter. They’ll just kill you and take your watch!

i dont get why youre asking the question , the watch is jewelry , man jewelry. Its not a defib machine or a life alert. Leave it home unless youre never leaving the resort. If your wife has a real expensive ring , would she leave it home?

There is a 4th option besides (a) bringing it with you, (b) leaving it at home in a safe with an alarm hopefully or (c) in a deposit box at a bank. Has anyone ever looked into professional vaulting services. This is more popular with those who own large coin collections / bullion. Vaulting service is probably overkill for just a single Datejust but if you had 5 Daytona's...

I've been more scared in Detroit than in the Riviera Maya. The Riviera Maya is very touristic and with security guarantees, and whoever says otherwise is because they have prejudices and are ignorant on the subject.

Are you really saying that? Ignorance is very bold. In Detroit I had a hard time, I had a lot of fear. Also in Oakland I was afraid. I went to see Warriors of the NBA. Those are cities with a lot of crime but I would never say that the USA is unsafe.

Mayan Riviera is safe. The vast majority of Mexico is the same way.

Anyone vacationing in Mexico over the holidays? Leaving the Rolex at home?

Just try to be smart and careful wherever you go and enjoy your watches.......what’s the point of having watches to be stored instead of using them as they’re supposed to, bad things can happen anywhere and to anyone as we’ve seen lately on the news......

I insure my Sub for ~140$/year and don't worry about what I do and where I go with the watch.

While I’m sorry for your loss, many people have had relatives murdered in cities in the US. And yet many travel here, live here and wear expensive jewelry here.

They’re both big countries. Generalizations are worthless. I live in small town America, 49th out of 50 states in violent crime. Yet we’ve had 50 murders in my 50k population city this year, mostly drug related. And I still feel safe wearing my Rolex out to dinner, shopping and everywhere I go. I would never tell someone to leave one home when visiting because someone was shot last week 15 miles from my house. It happens everywhere.

I just got back from Riviera Maya and Cancun Hotel Zone. Wore my Daytona everywhere except in the sand. Switched to the Seiko diver for that. If anyone has to ask if it’s safe to wear a Rolex anywhere, it’s probably not the watch for them.

I typically have a vacation watch that I don’t care much about. I can wear it with reckless abandon and now care.

I took my Kermit on a 2 week trip to Cuba and Mexico. Wasn't even in touristy places all the time. Took public transportation, climbed up Mayan ruins and swam in cenotes. Ate tacos from street carts. All wearing my 16610LV. Sure I could have been murdered or held at gun point if certain people had noticed that but I believe that that could also equally happen in the US at anytime.

I just got back from a vacation in Punta Mita, Mexico. Saw a great assortment of Rolexes in the hotel, but wouldn't advise talking them out. If you're going to stay at the hotel the whole time, you should be fine. As always be aware of your surroundings.

So you (or your Wife) think you'll be robbed at a 5-star resort?

Been to Mexico, the Mayan Riviera a few times. Absolutely loved it. Never stayed at a resort while there, you miss out on the experience IMHO.

Take the Rolex and enjoy. Gosh I wish it was me heading back to Mexico.

How many are murdered in the US each year? Just sayin'... S*it tends to happen everywhere.

I'm sorry for your relative.

Cancun isn't all that great, besides the Zona Hotellera (or what was it called?) Personally I would never vacation in Cancun. Short ferry ride to Isla Mujeres or head south from Cancun to Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Akumal or Tulum.

Oh and do bring the Rolex.

The murder rate in Mexico exceeds Detroit and Oakland combined. Police in mexico is more corrupted than the US. How many unsolved murders are there in Mexico compared to the US? Do read in the news in the US about people hung from bridges or mass graves or kidnapped university students? The atrocities committed by the drug cartels exceeds anything you see in the world. For you to say that Riviera Maya is safe because it is a tourist place shows profound ignorance!
You said you were fearful when you were in Detroit and Oakland, but did anything but did anything happened? Probably not. For you to point out the two cities in the US with a high African American population shows that you are also racist. That in itself is also ignorant.

You're manipulating. I speak specifically of Riviera Maya and you speak of the entire country. The Riviera Maya has nothing to do with Mexico City DC. If you had been in those cities you would understand, but you speak without knowing. Besides, you disrespect me by calling me a racist when you don't know me at all.

Pick any city in Mexico. It does not matter. Cancun is just a few miles away from Riviera Maya and they had a few killings right on the beach at one of the resorts. Isn’t Cancun a popular tourist spot? Come on get your head out of the sand and read the damn news!

Oakland is close to Silicon Valley and they're very different. That argument doesn't work for me.

Me with people who insult me and don't apologize, I don't usually argue, it's not worth it.

In the future be sure you can handle the insults before calling someone ignorant!
