I know its each to there own, but i prefer the black one myself, in April I was fortunate enough to choose between the black and blue and I choose black for its classic look with any atire ..
I found previously with red / blue watches I tend not to wear them with everything and they spend more time in the safe than on my wrist.. the classic black DSSD I wear with anything including manky old t-shirts.. but its a personal choice.. I do however also have a new Tudor GMT thats very colourful and thats getting worn with EVERYTHING right now :) |

I like the black...it is the classic. Wouldn’t mind having a blue also, but black is first choice

I like to be different when I can. With nothing else like it in the Rolex catalogue I would go Deep Blue!

The blue looks amazing in person. I do agree the black is classic.
I have the black and I'm looking to add a Deepsea blue and a SD43 to my collection this year. |

The gradient dial is what drew me to the watch. The black looks great too, but for me there is no chance I would trade my Deep Blue for a black dial. Rolex has so many other watches with black dials, the Deep Blue is unique.

After getting my Bluesy that I've wanted for 15 years and owning it for 2 years, then buying a 2005 SeaDweller I now know the black is for me, it's just so classic

True story. I've had the black from initial release. When the blue was released I happened to be in Dubai at the time and they had one available. Dealer offered me 10% discount making it around 7k at the time. Had it on my wrist and just thought it looked cheap. Didn't like the deep-sea in green.
Have to say it has grown on me a little but I'm still happy with the original black. |

Curious where the difference between the 2 dials are $3000.00? In the US the difference is only $300.00.

D blue for sure, but im biased. Amazing dial to commemorate J Cameron's dive. Got the hardbound Rolex book and blu ray as well. JC1 is a keeper for sure.

Comparing the look of D-Blue and Black side by side
Just came across this thread from another DSSD one. Here is a side by side comparison. I got the D-Blue first and was deeply loving it. But there was still an unexplained itch without the Black. So ended up getting both to complete the collection......Here is one comparison picture...

I would have preferred the lettering not in green.

I was wondering what the "D" in D Blue actually stood for, and seeing you mentioning "double" leads me to ask if this is a fact? I would've thought it stood for Deep Blue? I'm not calling you out in any way, just very curious as to what it in fact does stand for. Thanks

The D blue has nothing to do with the James Cameron dive as he actually wore the black dial on his wrist.... the D Blue is a lovely dial but I prefer the original Black dial... resale value is of no interest to me.....

When the watch was first released I was sceptical of the green text but always acknowledged the concept behind it being representative of the submersible. I also considered it to be a bit gimmicky. When I eventually got to see the watch in real life it became apparent that it was sort of fun, bright and cheery in contrast to the basic black which I already had. Both watches are really nice to have for a bit of variety in the collection. Besides, the Kawasaki green adds just a special little bit of pop |

But I think you miss the point of the whole exercise in that the variant was created to bring attention to the DSSD as a distinct model and boost sales based on the concept around it being created to commemorate the event. Rolex also built a scaled up version to go to the bottom outside the submersible as proof of concept behind the case architecture. Anyway, one looks at it the whole exercise worked brilliantly because the flagging sales of the DSSD were reversed and the D-blue was, and for the most part is still the subject of waiting lists. And this thread's existence is proof positive. |
