DeepSea Blue vs DeepSea Black

I am contemplating the purchase of a DeepSea. What do you think of the DeepSea Blue vs DeepSea Black? The Blue is ~$3000 more for same watch but with a Blue face. Is it "worth" it?

I had the Deep Sea Black and sold it to get the Deep Sea Blue. Blue version dial is amazing. Color of dial changes in the light and sometimes looks all black, other times a vibrant blue. I believe the blue version will hold its value better since they are hard to get and are somewhat limited. Also like the acid green lettering "DEEPSEA" on dial, which is color of the sub that James Cameron piloted down the Marianna Trench to below 36,000 feet below the surface. I like the fact that the blue is rare and a special edition.
Heard rumors it may be discontinued in the future, which would really make it a collector's watch. Either way you can't go wrong-they are both awesome watches.

I like the basic black original issue Deepsea. It's subtle yet substantial, has classic look with modern engineering technology DNA.

Buy the one that sings to you.

Happy hunting!

To be exact, it's $3,000 more if you're looking at grey market prices - the Blue is holding a higher value due to it's popularity and if the price-variance is warranted, only time will tell.

Having owned and sold 2 DSSD blacks in the past, I've purchased the Blue and will be keeping it in my rotation - the dial is just amazing and makes it stand out from the other Rolex divers in my collection. FWIW, I don't see the Blue being a permanent edition to the Rolex line-up.

At the end of the day, just buy the one you like best.

Happy to be corrected here, but if memory serves the D-Blue retails at only £250 (US$ 375 ish) more than the standard black dial.

Go for what sings to you but for me, it would be the D-Blue every time.

$300 US price difference on retail. Worth every penny. The all black is very nice but the D Blue is amazing. Only way to go for me.

I was in the AD today and they had both in the case side by side. The D Blue is much more vibrant. It made the black dial watch look like a clunky block of steel. The D Blue is worth the extra bit for that dial IMO.

I prefer the blue dial. Depending on the lighting, the dial changes color.

I've owned the black twice now and will be getting the D-Blue when I can find one. I've gone back and forth but it became clear when I actually handled one and the AD let me take it out in sunlight to see. I even asked the sales lady assisting me to wear it for me to get perspective of the dial. I was sold.

Another vote for the classic black. The green accents and blue/black dial are not for me.

Owned both ... love both.

The blue dial is amazing, but the matte black is just perfection.

If pressed, I'd go blue.

i love both, but to my eyes the black is more handsome and suited for daily wear, its classic. i will pick up a d-blue as well though to complete the set. regardless, you should see them both in person first.

"Worth" is a very personal decision

Blue dial Patek Nautiluses and Audemars Royal Oaks street prices carry a premium over other colors

Rolex dial variations like PN Daytonas and red Subs are worth more than their counterparts

If you have any preference for the blue, go for it!

From a financial perspective, the blue seems to be holding value well on secondary market with little discounting at ADs. Will that last? Only time will tell.

That said, if you have something like a Sub or SeaDweller in the collection, I'd go blue just to have that extra "difference."

Otherwise, its a crap shoot - go for the black, and the pricing should be fairly stable. Blue has risk of dropping if supply catches up, potential upside if discontinued, etc...you just don't know.

So it comes back to...what do YOU think?

D-Blue is my favorite Rolex period, followed by the regular black dial and the third favorite is the BLNR. D-Blue and BLNR would be my ideal Rolex Pair.

Look great, is it worth it? No, especially not when you have a Sub and SDC as cheaper options.

But hey, it's Rolex, not Kirkland.

Beyond aesthetics, it boils down to whether the blue is worth $3K, don't it?
