fancy serial #'s

as a rolex owner, and someone who collects fancy serial number currency, i always wondered if someone collected watches the same way. is there a premium on a rolex with say a 9999999 or an R000001 serial number? awesome forum. first post but i read here everyday.

I know in certain cultures that some numbers are deemed more lucky than others, but I can't imagine buying a watch that way....it could take a while!

Can't say about any of my Rolexes, but I have this nice mismatched serial numbered $1 note!

Folks seem to be looking for a watch first...condition etc. especially for Vintage. Man, it would be a task to look for serial #s.

Didnt really had a choice with my rolexes apart from the LV.
Fortunately all my serial numbers had at least one 6 and one 8 in it.

Well, I have never seen anyone talking about serial #s in that regard here...but perhaps on watch forums frequented by Chinese folks???

For Chinese, too many 4's are considered unlucky since 4 is sounded like death.

The problem with searching out a specific number is that you won't even know what watch model to look for with that specific number...

I mean..number V000001 could be a platinum President...do you want to drop $50k just to get a number..

no. i agree but i cant imagine someone buying a rolex, with such a serial number, and not think they had something really special. i mean let's face it, many of our fellow rolie owners can can be a little vain. first edition this, limited edition that, etc. i would imagine they would have some kind of "club". lol.

Can't disagree with that.. I think it would be cool to have a Sub with 007 someplace in the serial.........

Maybe its the OCD in me but I admit to always checking Serial numbers for any interesting characteristics - multiple repeats of a digit, digits relevant to the product.
I agree that a Bond watch with '007' in the Serial would be a nice happstance.
In the '70s I owned a Fiat 124 Sport Coupe with the registration number "124". My Cellini has three '8' in the Serial - not that this means much to me.

I believe that some collectors will pay extra for prefix/country code " 061 " this being watches issued at Rolex headquarters in Bienne .

A watch is not currency or coins where one collects specific dates and serial #'s, so I would say most if not all collectors collect the watch for what it is and not its serial # regardless of what it is.
