Off Center Text.....Replace the Dial??

I hadn't noticed until today (first time I have taken macro shots)........But Rolex made a slight boo boo on my dial. Look at the 3 lines of text on the top of the dial. I believe that "Milgauss" is centered, but the 2 lines above are shifted to the left. Actually, the text on the bottom off the dial is slightly shifted to the left as well. I am researching it now, but on all the other Millies that I have found thus far have symmetrical text.

I bought the watch from DavidSW, and it was BNIB. The warranty card is in my name, so I feel pretty certain that I could have it replaced at no cost. I honestly don't typically sweat the small details, and I have been wearing the watch all week without even noticing. I am inclined to not mess with it. What would you guys do........Would you have the dial replaced? Or, would you leave it alone

That is a defect in production that frankly should have been caught well before now, I would replace.

I predict that this "flawed dial" will be like the stick-dial GMT II. It will be worth a premium someday

I am with Jason on this subject...

Don't touch it...it is awesome....Factory mistakes by ROLEX is very RARE.....it might be worth big bucks someday... it is a "UNIQUE" subject as it is for now.!!!!!!!

Remember the upside down Bi plane printed on USPS stamps by accident early 20th century......later, fetched millions..???

I would swap out for a new dial but still keep the "off centered" variant.

In case it may be worth something some day.

Or 50 years from now people are going to think that is a fake dial.

Look at all the Red Submariner and the DRSD detectives today.

Good point.........But if I retain the watch for a long time (I am the first owner) since the papers are in my name.........It seems like that would go quite a ways in authenticating the watch/dial.

Jason,

Have you asked Rolex and/or an AD about it? I.e. is it a "known" issue?

Just curious.

I hadn't noticed that either

You are right though. ALL the black text on the dial is off-centered and shifted to the left.

Looks like it is a multiple step process, in producing dials by Rolex.

Look at the consistency, in how the text was off centered and everything else is perfect.

A one step process would have prevented this from happening. I believe the coronet is applied by hand and the person doing it should have spotted the text, but it got passed along to the next assembly line.

Very interesting....

if the rsc change the dial, i cant see them letting you keep the misaligned one. if i were you, considering the comments above and the potential of the dial as a rarity, i would either leave it as is and know that you have a "special" milgauss, or if you cant live with it, pick up another dial and have a watchmaker swap it out for you and keep the special one..just incase it turns out to be worth someting in the future..you can always put it back on your watch..!

best of luck whatever you decide..

i too have had problems with both my rolexes, my 1st brand new sub had a metal shaving under the crystal, and my 2nd one had dust on the dial and dirt on the 11 lume!

all good now though.. sorted..

If these dials are being stamped with robotics, I wonder how many batches of these dials are out there.

Surely this can't be an isolated incident? Or could it?

I am going back to the thread that Greg started about the Milgauss and look at the pictures from members.

You may get lucky one day and a collector might pick it up for a premium!! I am not making this stuff up......just recently "BassettHounds" - got his Daytona picked up by a collector and got a brand new V series Daytona in return!

Was just thinking that...

What is a "typical" dial production run. Since the Migauss is not as popular, perhaps they had smaller runs.

I would keep it! And YES somebody would pay a premium for it with the factory misprint dial.

You might as well keep it now!

It's special...at least with the flaws, you will know that nobody has one like yours.

The SWISS MADE could be stamped in another process because I see a lot of inconsistency with a lot of the Millies on another picture thread that was started. A lot of watches the "MADE" part is never centered between the 3 second markers.

Now that you are aware of the flawed dial, it will constantly nag at you......unless, of course, you are not bothered by it.

Personally, it would drive me nuts!!

I would have it changed.

I would change it... Find a correct dial and keep the wrong one if you think it will be a good sell in a few years.. Probably not but who knows there is always someone looking for strange flaws as rare items. Think if you were offered the same watch with a "rare dial alignment" would you buy it??? Not me.. Good luck.

Does anyone else think the quality control is slipping a bit for Rolex? There have been a few reports of clasps breaking, dust under glass or dirt on dials. On my old sub the bezel was not aligned correctly and had to go back.

Afraid the stick dial or the like you put it flawed dial is nothing more that a simple font change. And anyone paying over the odds for these dial must sixpence short of a shilling.Again another Rolex myth started on the internet by someone that has very little knowledge in the Rolex world of watches. And with the Milgauss the macro shot makes it look a lot worse than it is perhaps 1mm out.
