Rolex service guarantee
I inherited my father's 1965 GMT twelve years ago. I wear it everyday and it has never missed a beat. I have had it serviced twice by Rolex and have been delighted both times with the service. The first watch was guaranteed by Rolex after the first service in 1997 but they would not guarantee the watch after the second service last year "due to its age". Is it standard procedure for Rolex not to guarantee servicing of watches over a certain age? I still regularly swim in mine but this service guarantee and the waterproofing crosses my mind.

Not in the US. I had a 1972 Double Red Sea Dweller serviced in NYC this past summer and I have the 1 year warranty with that service. If they agree to service it, they are saying they can restore the watch to "Rolex Standards" IMO. If they can't, then they should refuse service completely. I would contact Geneva about this.

Dallas did it for me with no question. NYRSC is not my favorite. |

Weird, Dallas serviced me the first time with the same watch but refused me the second time when NYC didn't refuse. Ask for Joanne Ruso in NYC and ask if she will let you send it in for consideration (at least). If its within their ability to bring it back to "Rolex Standards", I bet they will do it for you (with Joanne's approvial).

I dont think they want the liability. There has been more than 1 fake or franken watch that got serviced and got service papers.

There is also the concern about damage to dials that can no longer be replaced. |
