Thought:Please post pics of fakes before ebay removes them.
Hello all, i take a look at this section of the forum from time to time and have learned a lot over the past couple of years. The threads are more helpful when a photo is attached or before ebay removes the listing. It may help others get a better feel for fakes! So, if possible plz post a pic of fakes before they dissappear from ebay. Thanks!!!

They should be posted, the sticky at the top of the page gives these guidelines:
"So as to enable better identification of issues the following guidelines where possible are recommended to be included in your thread: Title of listing as title of thread (unless there are multiple items) A link to the listing or site. The sellers name or listing number (makes tracking easier) Reasons for your concern of authenticity or issues with the item. Item description. Item photo. Its fairly important to pop in the sellers name as previous conversations/threads can easily be found and added to, saves starting new threads and having multiple conversations on the same item. The search function can be found in the forum tools menu on the upper right side on the watchout main page." All should be posted to make it easy to track old posts, prevent double listings etc........ |

Its not so easy to save and post a pic of a listing any more. You cant just right click and save an image. At least not in firefox. Does anyone know a quick and easy way to save an image from ebay?

6. Any allegation that a watch is a 'fake' must be supported with reason/s otherwise the post will be removed forthwith without notice. I understand entirely that the few key players on this forum are up to their necks in work here and no one appreciates their efforts more than I, but giving reasons for why it's felt a watch is fake would be a big help to those of us trying to help and learn. Many times I just don't know what to say in the comment box when reporting these fakes to Ebay, but if a reason were given it would give us more credibility when reporting a listing. Regardless THANK YOU to all who put so much time and effort into this forum... you've saved many a person from getting ripped off. |

Ditto on this post...Due to my inquisitive nature, I spend more time in this forum than any other. I'd love to know what "makes" a fake watch, so I peruse this forum leaching info from those here who can spot a fake at 50 paces. I don't participate in the forums that much, but I DO read a lot.
But in this forum, the majority of posts are accompanied by only a link or pithy remark stating its fake and no description of why its fake. I really don't understand why its such a closely guarded secret. So, I took the situation into my own hands and have been visiting one of those bad people sites that cater to fakes. I've learned more there in 12 hours than I have here in over a year. I now know how to adequately spot a fake, maybe not some of the modded ones at this point, but I'm certainly a lot more prepared. You guys have such a gift, I don't know why you're hesitant to spread the knowledge. |

I don't think anyone is hesitant to spread any knowledge, my believe is totally contrary to that view. The more information shared here can only benefit all members.
Maybe a little complacency has crept in where one sees obvious problems with a watch, reports it but neglects to think that they are not as obvious to others and therefore no description is given. And as Dave mentioned above time can also be (it shouldn't) a factor, as the main aim is to take this listings down and sometimes a lengthy description can takes too long. I think if we all do our best to follow Steve's guidelines as posted in the sticky above we should be on the right track. Good point that you raised...... |

Agreed Michael, there is also as issue discussed here many times in the past of the attention we do bring to the watch community here in watchout, pointing out all the flaws also educates the counterfeiters on mistakes they are making, on many occasions while checking posts have a look at the bottom of the thread paying attention to the "Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread:", I see there on many threads a number of guests, not I'm not saying all guests are from the fraudulent world of fungus production, but there has been times that reps of these sites are wandering around looking at the freely available information on this forum.
Remember all these posts can be searched for on google, that includes the eBay sellers name too, so its a bit of a double edged sword, these fraudsters don't need to wonder why their listings get taken down, just do a quick look around and the answer can be found, and in many cases in the past we have had conscientious sellers that have inadvertently listed a watch that is a trademark infringement, and they have been very professional in their candor and stayed on as valuable members of this forum. I'm not hesitant to spread the knowledge, I have a wife that doesn't understand how I can spend so much time defending the innocent :-) Dave.

And to respond to Barracuda.... If you have a question about why a watch is fake, ask and someone here will answer. We all want to help fellow watch enthusiasts. |
