Hi there,

I've loved my Z series Sea-Dweller and really fancy a Deep Sea.

My quandry is that I can't really justify owning two decent watches, being a family man and all, so I would welcome your thoughts before I make up my mind.

Appreciating my SD has now been discontinued and increasing demand for this timeless classic appears to be on the up, what would you do??

Also, if anyone has had the same situation, have any of you regretted it?

IMO,I would not sell it.....I did once and realised it was a mistake and repurchased one 6 months later!!!!

That's just me though!!! If you really feel you want the DSSD and it'll make you happy,go for it...But remember,the original SD is a classic!!!

Have you tried a DSSD on yet? I would sit tight on the SD & save for the DSSD if you really want it.

I would keep it. The SD is already a classic in its own right. The DeepSea is a nice watch, but too big and thick IMO.

I would keep the Sea Dweller, since it is discontinued and you can buy a DSSD anywhere.

I agree.. The DSSD is a completely different feel than the standard sea dweller and quite honestly takes alot of getting used too.. If you have not tried one on please do.. If you have and are thinking, well, I will get used to it, I can tell you from experience it is a huge adjustment

I agree with those above that you should try on the DSSD if you haven't already. For me the SD is a very comfortable watch but personally I find the DSSD to be just too large and heavy . . . the DSSD is a great engineering and manufacturing achievement and more power to those who like it, but it's definitely a watch to try on before buying.

Thanks so far, appreciated. I tried one on several months ago at my local AD, without the strap being adjusted and it did feel noticably different. It was offered to me and subsequently I declined the purchase.

If I had fallen 110% in love with it, I would normally bite the bullet there and then.....!!

My wrist measures approx 7" and I was hoping this wouldn't create too much of a problem, with the weight of the DSSD. I am also not 'showy' with my watches and need to be mindful of it's appearance with formal work wear.

There is no right/wrong answer here, just opinions.

The DSSD is a massive piece and arguably the best Rolex ever built, but it heavy (220 grams) and much more eye-catching as well. I reflected on it for a good while and ended up buying one, but again I got a few other watches that I rotate with.

But look at it this way - it is twice as expensive so you could basically keep your SD and get something like a good old GMT and have multiple watches.

The regular SD has somewhat of a cult-following at the moment. I wouldn't worry about being able to find one down the road if you flip yours - there are tons of them out there.

My personal philosophy on material things - I rather have a few good things (that I really truly appreciate) than more stuff that I less desire and/or of inferior quality (doesn't apply to the SD in this case). Less is more.

I have both, and I would never part with one of my 16600 SeaDwellers for a DeepSea. I love my DeepSea, but the 16600 is just classic.

Very tough call, I have owned and love both.

I think I would keep the SD, it is a better all around watch due to its lower profile if you are only a one watch guy.

Both are great watches and I will own both again soon. Just had trade offers with each I could not resist.

Actually, I have had a same problem as you, the point is If you'd be hard to find out a SD if you really sold it out. However, buying DSSD is another story!

I have a SD and am about to add a DSSD soon. If someone put a gun to my head and said I had to give up one, I would most likely give them the DSSD. The SD is something that I will keep and give to my son someday. I think it's perfectly sized for my 7" wrist.

However, the DSSD makes me drool and I can't wait to get it on my wrist.

Cannot see the point the only advantage in the DSSD is the clasp and extra depth rating both movements are basically the same.The SD has all the depth rating you will never need as SD was good enough for any man now of future.You have the classic Rolex icon now why pay the extra price for watch
