A newbie has questions
I am finally deciding to purchase a Rolex (probably a used 2007 or 2008 Yacht Master). The local AD wanted ~$9400 for a "brand new" 2006 model. (sitting on their shelf for a long time.) FYI: I plan to purchase from a reputable seller of used Rolex mentioned on this site or an actual member here that has a long track record of being trustworthy.
Please give this newbie a break if I ask horrible questions about Rolex’s watches. (I have read a lot before posting) Rolex warranty seems to be two years. If it is used and less than two years old… is there anything special I need to have to utilize the Rolex warranty? Original receipt? Original paper work stamped? What if it wasn’t originally purchased in the US… how does that affect things? If I buy a new watch in the Caribbean and take it to the USA, how does the warranty work?? Is it a Caribbean warranty or USA warranty? (I read there are some subtle differences) What different papers come with the original Rolex? Owners manual is one? Is the warranty card separate or part of the manual? What else? (at least important to have when you own one) Should I always inspect the watch before the purchasing? (i.e. never by from a picture and have it shipped.) If so what should I look for? (Besides verifying, the best I can, that it isn’t a fake) What intelligent questions should I ask the seller before purchasing? (I’ll take your suggestions based on your experience of ownership) Some I am thinking of asking the seller. (Tell me if they are inappropriate.) Was this watch originally purchased from an Authorized Dealer (with it’s stamp on the warranty card)? Month and year on warranty card? Letter in front of serial number? What country was it intended to be sold in (or the 3-digit code on warranty card)? Does the watch have all the original parts? How accurate is the time? Does it have all the original links? What questions haven’t I thought of? Many thanks. |

Evan, if I may, if you don't have a practiced eye for Rolex details then stay away from anywhere other than very established sellers such as some of our TRF members. You need to buy from someone with a rock solid, proven track record to ensure you're getting what you pay for. At the risk of sounding redundant, buy the seller.
Just my $0.02, currently deflated to $0.01 3/4

I found one at bernardwatch.com (seems there are good things said about him on this site)
If I find a TRF member that has one similar but with a better price. that would work too. I just wanted to make sure I asked good questions (the kind of questions an experienced Rolex owner would ask) |
