superocean or.....

i need two more watches but will probably have to wait a couple of months for the main one-everyday(not work though), rugged and about $5500- probably a panerai power reserve or a daylight chrono. although if the new ss gmt were to come out... who knows?!

but for the 'basher' watch- work, theme parks etc i am considering the breitling superocean or colt gmt. can anyone recommend either, or any other watch in $2000 and under range that would fill those duties????

i'd be grateful for any imput

Well myself could think of hundreds well under your price range.Yes Breitlings are fine watches so are many others. Like Seiko,as rugged as you will ever want, all inhouse made, from the case, dial, hands and movements, and they are built to last.

i did think of getting a cheaper one now and spending a bit more on the more expensive one in a few months... but i got an oris last time i was in this position and regretted it so i think i should push the financial limit before my wife starts demanding kids and treats are a thing of the past!

If your heart is truly set on the SOP, you can get used ones for $1000-$1200 range.

I just sold my SOP today. SOPs are great watches especially the brushed finish. It is hard to put scuffs on them.

Breitlings and Omegas are great choices in this category--both are known for quality and durability. There are many brands to check out in this range though, you might want to look at:

AlphaTime Sawfish
Ball
Doxa 750T
Fortis B42
Stowa Prodiver
Limes Tausand
Muhle Glasshute Rasmus
Sinn U1 or U2
UTS 1000 or 3000

Most of these are considered to be durable. If it were me though, I think I would either go with Omega or Breitling, but that's just my personal preference. Good luck.

i thought of the breitling as it was COSC, the sinn ones are nice though, but as a work one i want something more recognisable(sad, i know!) i could get a omega aqua terra on a brown leather with the copper indices with 33% off, and i think its a stunning watch, but not realy rugged enough

You know, in some professions it's actually wise to wear a well known name. So I wouldn't be ashamed of your desire to get a known name. But here, it also depends on "how much" prestige you need. People in certain fields and wealth categories are going to be familiar with and respect different brands. I am going to assume you don't want to spend more. So I would say go for the Omega or Breitling for sure. If you do have more to spend, I would say: Ulysse Nardin Marine Diver Chronometer, IWC Aquatimer, Glasshute Original Sports Evolution, Girard Perregaux Sea Hawk II, Chopard Pro One, or the Blancpain 50 Fathoms. (By the way, I realize you talked about 2 different categories initially.)

If it were me, I would go with Omega, then Breitling. I have tried on both watches and they are both great. I would say the Breitling might be tougher, the Omega more stylish, if I had to give a short take on both. If you like Breitling, I would say don't hesitate--they make excellent watches. I plan to buy a Superocean myself.

Now don't read to much into the COSC,its just a bit of paper and most modern day movements can be regulated to run to standards. Now seeing how you liked the Montana watches here is one from Eddie Platts at timefactors a great guy and 100% reliable, same movement as the Montana.

Unitas 17 jewel hand winding, calibre 6498 running at 21,600 BPH. Decorated with Geneva stripes, and see though back and at £245 IMO quite a bargain.

in this instance(pre christmas/orlando holiday) i think the aqua terra is the better looking watch, but as i already have the DJ and plan to get a pam in a few months i feel i will get something on a ss bracelet which is more chunky then the DJ so i am aiming for 3 totally different styles, the superocean looks to have won.... but what dial colour????? i like the coral/orange! but the blue is nice. and i have to decide whether to get a colt gmt or a SO as they look very similar and the gmt is water resistant enough for what i need it for(the bath/seaworld/english weather) maybe it would be more sensible.

the plot thickens....

i now have the opportunity to get this one for an even cheaper £750

just when i was happy with the superocean, this pops up... i always admired it, as i think its a beautiful watch, but not necesarily ideal for work... however it seems too good an offer to turn down.

is it possible to buy the ss bracelet for this model and does anyone know of the price?

thanks
