Strange Dilemma: Wound up with 2 of the same watch!!
I saved my $$ and finally bought a brand new 16600 D-series, 2 yrs ago. Last year, my wife gives me another 16600, Z-series as a surprise, she bought from an acquaintance. She thought I only had a SUB and the SD looks awfully like the SUB and she is not into watches like I am ...
So now I have 2, 16600s ....Both immaculate, with paper work, boxes, everything. Should I keep them both or trade one for a DEEPSEA in the future? EVenthough two of the same watch sounds silly but since it is an SD, for some reason I have not accepted the idea of getting rid of it .... something tells me I will regret it .... also, I am not in need of the money ... so if I liquidate the 2nd SD, I do not have immediate plans to buy anything else .... except for DSSD in the future...so I am thinking why liquidate i now in a bad market ....plus I am a diver watch only kind of a guy ....can't see myself wearing anything other than SUB, SD or DSSD....I feel kind of silly BUT fortunate also for having 2 SDs ....but once in a while, the thought does enter my mind .... why keep 2 .... plus I already have a 16610 and 16613 ... If I do trade one in for DSSD, what should the trade in value be? thanks, |

I can be a bit of a hoarder. I would keep one unworn, just for the fun of it.

Keep the one 16600 you had from the wife and trade the other for say the GMT11 then get a few low cost inserts 3 different watches for the price of one.As you like dive watches the 16600 is perfectly adequate for that.

As a general rule of thumb, I would keep whatever your wife buys you as a gift! Sounds to me like both watches have been worn? or was this acquaintance a jeweler of some sort? Hang on to both for a bit and see how things play out. IMHO, the SD 16600 is going to take some time to appreciate as they can still be purchased BNIB form AD's.

That is considered blaspheny, desecration, heresy...in certain countries you could be "behanded" for doing such a thing ! But I still think it looks cool. And if Rolex came out with a special factory run of these, say,...a couple thousand or so, they would be sold out before they left the factory.

Thanks for the vote Randy......
I say keep them both and give one to possibly a son?? or a daughter when they come of age. Save your money if you want another Rolex, but I bet you would be kicking yourself in 10 years if you get rid of one of these 16600s. I am considering buying a third 16600

I would personally keep the two. I would not trade a sea dweller for a deep sea. Just sit on them for a while and see how you feel later on. If the prices start to increase you may well be glad you kept it.

I personally believe the prices have already started to increase. I bought my A-serial SD (the one that I had PVD'd) ~ 1 year ago off the forums from a reputable seller for $3,200. I haven't hardly seen a beat-up 16600 for less than $4,000 recently.
