My oldest watch
One of my pocket watch collection just came back from the watchmaker. This one hails back to 1865, 18k, key set and key wind chain fusee. The fusee drive was an early method used by watchmakers to compensate for the reduction in mainspring tension as the spring unwound, allowing watches to remain more or less accurate.
The time is set by using a key to rotate the minute hand arbour, and this one was getting stiff to turn. I was afraind of the key slipping and scratching the dial, so off it went for a little TLC. Well, a lot of TLC. Now I can enjoy giving it a couple of winds on a Friday night and listen to the music of those ~150 year old gears chugging away. The last 2 pix showing the fusee drive aren't of my watch, but they show the fusee concept pretty well.

What a beauty Al
I'd be there listening on a Friday night thinking who has done the same over the history of that watch, and how many times someone has looked on it with great fondness, history in your pocket!!! Dave.

Excellent, Al!
You have such a fabulous collection of pocket watches, my friend. You have inspired me to get my Dad's old pocket watch (handed down from HIS father) serviced and in working order. Thanks, as always, for sharing with us!

I have the same type of thoughts when I wear my 1917 Eglin WWI Trench Watch. I love pondering the history of the time pieces. Cool stuff!
