I remember reading a few years ago that some of it is staged because of the high risks but if you really watch the show he's a real survivalist. I enjoyed tonights episode when he was in an old abandoned log cabin and slept up in the attic. He had to set trip wire alarms to alert him of bears when he was sleeping. Really makes me appreciate my bed.
