I've decided to save up for a Rolex but...

...what is the price of the Air King right now in Canada?
This Rolex price increase I read about is scaring me, I hear 4%, 10%, 15% increase all AT ONCE! Let get the fact straight, what is the "exact" Rolex price increase in Canada? Do price increase vary for different models?

Last year, here in Alberta, AK was just under $5000 and I hope it doesn't go over that or else...

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'm not sure in relation to the A-K's current price or any supposed increases. My advice though is to not get the Air-King unless you're absolutely in love with it. Buy a Datejust - it's a lot nicer. There are lots of deals out there as well, especially on TRF, if you buy from a reliable and trusted seller on here you can save thousands on a brand new watch.

For the record I have an Air-King and it's a nice watch, but I wouldn't spend $5000 on one when you can buy much better watches for the same price if you do your homework.

Good luck, whatever you do :)

Unlike a lot of folks here, I have little fear of Ebay as long as the seller is a big player with a long track record...

Here's am M serial 2008 AK listed as new on Ebay Canada for $3082 Canadian or best offer http://cgi.ebay.ca/Rolex-Air-King-SS...item3ca9269d98

I don't now this seller, but that is the route I would take - regardless of model - I've purchased about a dozen watches from Ebay with no problems at all.

Oops...I just looked at the pictures - it appears there is some sort of engraving on the back of that - have a look...

Perhaps it should go to "Watch Out"?

Well anyway...IF you find a good watch at a good price and IF it isn't a fugazi and IF and IF....

Good luck...

Thanks Alcan!

Price just keep on increasing and increasing eh!

Should I expect another increase or is this safe for 2010?

Darkhorse, I like AK for what it is worth..history, quality, etc!
Datejust is nice too but I think as an entry Rolex, AK is fine.

I was in the same boat, saving for a Rolex GMT Master IIc. I saw one AD offering 3 years interest free credit. I took the deal with a £1000 deposit. It will mean you'll have to pay retail but you get it now at todays price instead of watching all the price rises taking it that bit futher away. I bought in late Dec, before the U.K vat rise of 2.5%. There is talk of vat rising again to 20% here as the Labour Government has f****d the economy up so much we have all got to pay for it. Also the impending ever present price rise means in a few months my watch will probably cost £400 - £500 more than I paid for it.

Have a look/ring around to see if any of the AD's in your area are doing an interest free deal.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. Intrest free deal eh...I think when it comes to a big purchase, finance sounds risky.

Rolex airking models start at US$ 3587/- here in Antigua when I heard last. Make up your mind. Air Canada flies to St. Johns!

It might be worth it. I was in my local AD in Edmonton yesterday and the price of a Sub Date has risen over $750 since I bought mine a little over a year ago. Crazy!!

Brkanand, I did the currency exchange: 3587 USD= 3826 CAD.

Rolex in Antigua is a much better deal, AK here is just under $5000 in Alberta, Canada. We are talking a $1000 difference between two countries.

I don't understand, I thought Rolex keep their price at a same range (from places to places) while considering the currency exchange.

What is the AD name in Antigua? I have a feeling air fare ticket+a Rolex in Antigua is cheaper than buying it here in Calgary. Talk about mixed feelings!

If you buy pre-owned, it'll be less.

The current economy is definitely putting the "suggested" back in MSRP. Don't worry about the price increase too much; you ought to be able to get a DJ or AK less than two years old for well under $4k USD, and that price won't be moving much in the next year.

Don't get me wrong, I like Air-Kings too - as I said, I have one and it's a nice watch. My point was more that if you were buying it for the sake of getting an entry level Rolex rather than because you liked the style, then it was worthwhile having a hunt around as you can grab some of the other ranges brand new on here for less than the price of an AK at an AD.

Anyhow best of luck, be sure to post pics once you've made the acquisition :)

I'm with darkhorse on this one.

I agree, it sounds like he's interested in just getting his foot in the door, hence the AK.

My advice is to use that $4800 that it would cost you for the least expensive watch in Rolex's line and get yourself a real nice Omega.

If you really want the AK, I suggest you buy one used that's a couple years old. If you do go brand new, you should ask for at least a 20% discount on this model.

From a price point, yes.

With all due respects, I think Air King is a better watch than other Omega watches I've seen around. Personally, I don't click with Omega watches..it just doesn't appeal to me. (Dial look, bezel shape, and etc)

I was at the AD today and Air King was there but it wasn't the dial I wanted. (Silver dial) Of course the AD said she could order the one that appealed to me.

As for deals, I asked her what's the best discount she can offer and she said 10% off if I go with financing. (10 month interests free) She said if I pay at once with cash, she can offer me a 20% off.

So what have I decided to do? I decided that finance wouldn't feel right, I'd rather have the watch knowing I paid 100% for it. So that means...I will start to save, save, and save!!

Thanks to all the wonderful suggestions, I appreciate it!

By the way, I'm not considering an AK because it is an entry level watch. Yes, the price is the "cheapest" out of all the Oyster Perpetual watches but after doing my research, I liked the simple, classic look of the AK. I also liked the fact that it is a 34mm. Most of all, when I look at the watch, there is something that draws me into it...something I don't feel with Omega watches. After all, isn't that the most important thing, a watch that connects. I hope that clarifies few things!
