Anybody use Kindle?
I'm not much of a reader, listen to audio books on plane trips quite a bit, but not much into regular old books. However, I DO have one ritual involving reading I partake in almost every day, the newspaper(s).
I try to make it to my local coffee shop (or the nearest Starbucks if traveling), sit down, have a coffee and read the paper, sometimes two or even three newspapers if they sell them. I am interested in the news of course, but it's also my break from a stressful work day. Sometimes it's a pain to buy a newspaper, the shop is out a lot of the times and I have to find the nearest stand, if I pay one dollar for a paper, that's at LEAST a couple hundred bucks a year, and that's if I only buy one, AND, since I'm in to technology and doing my part to go green, not wasting natural resources. these are all good reasons to use electronic media. I can buy subscriptions to several newspapers, anywhere from 5 to 15 dollars a year, and they are available via download as soon as the paper version hits the stands. So, it sounds like an excellent idea.... but, I've never used a Kindle! Has anyone else? How is your experience with it? Is it difficult to read for old-blind people like me? Have you read a newspaper on it and how is that experience? Thanks for your insite! ![]() |

Got it. Love it. The technology behind e-ink is amazing, and the kindle causes less strain on your eyes because, like a newspaper or book, it is not backlit. (The Apple I-Pad's failing is that it IS backlit, and that leads to eye strain). Battery lasts forever as well, all because of e-ink.
I went back and forth between the DX and the regular, and I have to say that the regular, or cheaper, Kindle has served me really well. I like the compact nature of it. Also, (as a fellow old-blind person) the default size of print on the screen is perfect for failing eyes - although you can increase the font size without a problem. I bought one because everyone I knew that had one just raved about it. I mean, they went on and on. Now I know why. Hope this helps. ![]()

I use a kindle everyday and I really like it.
One of the nice features is that you can download books right to the Kindle, no need to go online. I finished reading The Lovely Bones last night in bed and then downloaded a new book in about a minute without having to get out of bed. Another nice feature is that there is an Iphone app for Kindle that will sync your Iphone to the Kindle device. If I'm waiting at the doctors office I can open the kindle app on my Iphone and it will go to the last page read on the Kindle, when I get home and turn on the Kindle it will go ot the last page read on the Iphone. One of the better purchases I've made in a long time. ![]() |

I really like it too. The convenience of buying books right on the Kindle is great, as is the ability to carry a very larger number of books with me on the device. You can adjust the font size if you want too.
Also there are a quite a few free books for the Kindle (a combination of out of copyright older titles - such as the Sherlock Holmes stories - and books by aspiring authors). |

I guess this is the reason why my Barnes and Noble was a ghost town, the other night. Nobody buys books anymore.
