DC GTG in May

OK, gang. Ashley is going to be in DC from Monday, May 24th through Thursday, May 27th. Arleen and I are only available on Tuesday, May 25th. What's the possibility of some of us getting together for dinner on the 25th to welcome Ashley to our fair city?

Who is up for this?

I'm new to the forum, but live in the area so I'm up for a GTG in May. Do I have to buy a Rolex by then? :) (Would give me a good reason...well it would give me "a" reason to take the plunge)

Matt, you don't have to buy a Rolex by then, but if that's the excuse you need, well so much the better.

But seriously, you don't need a Rolex to join friends and have a good time. Just come as you are.

Okay so my mom apparently booked my flight differently than what I had originally thought, I will be there from the 21st to the 26th. Let me know which day works best for you :)

I tried finding some places that Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, but I don't think he has done anything there.
What are the small group of us thinking? I leave it in your hands, though let's try to stay away from burger joints unless they serve salmon or tuna

Also.. I am looking into perhaps staying a bit longer by myself after my mom leaves. Any hotel suggestions?

Where are you going to be staying, Ashley? That may have a bearing on places we suggest.

What types of food do you like or not like? Is there any type in particular that you would like? Give me some hints so I can suggest some places.

Right now, any of May 23rd, 25th or 27th work for Arleen and me.

We are staying at the Omni Shoreham, looks pretty nice there. As for food, I love sushi and Mexican, and seafood. I don't eat any meat other than seafood, so a steakhouse wouldn't be the best

And I think the 25th would work best for my schedule, at least until I figure out if I will stay a few days longer without my mom.

The Omni Shorham is a very nice hotel. I think you'll like it there.

Considering location, I would recommend one of these two places (they are both good and easy to get to on our Metro (subway):

For fish:
Pesce
2002 P St. NW (near Dupont Circle)
Washington, DC 20036

Website: www.pescedc.com
It's one stop on the red line metro from the Adams Morgan/Zoo station (two blocks from your hotel) to the Dupont Circle station.

For Mexican:
Oyamel
401 Seventh St. NW
Washington, DC 20004

Website: www.oyamel.com

It's also on the Red Line two blocks south of Gallery Place station (4 stops from Adams Morgan).

Both are excellent and (for Washington) reasonably priced.

If you're OK with one of those, we just need to figure out how many will be in attendance.

Ooh, they both look good and have lots of seafood choices. The first one seems more upscale where the Mexican one looks like a place to let loose, so what kind of night are we wanting to have??

As we get closer, perhaps early May, we can get a head count and then I'll see about making a reservation at Oyamel for 7:00 PM on May 25th.

We're getting closer. Can we get a better idea yet how many members we'll have at the DC GTG on May 25th?

It's time to get serious now. The DC GTG, with Ashley as the honored guest is only a couple weeks away. We're doing dinner at Oyamel, 401 7th St, Washington, DC 20004 Tel: (202) 628-1005; website: http://www.oyamel.com/

I'm going to make the reservation for 6:30 PM.

I'll need a head count.

So far we have

Ashley
Rockrolex (and Mrs. Rockrolex)
Yazo

Who else can we count on?

Two weeks to go. Who's in?

I just reread the thread. I'll make the reservation for 7:00 PM.

C'mon, gang. Less than two weeks to go. We've got a boatload of members in the DC area. We should be able to get a decent turnout. The restaurant is top notch and I guarantee the company will be stimulating.

Let's do it, people.
