Show me your "beaters"

Hello everyone;

I rarely wear a watch when I work on my cars, but I do own a "beater" for such occasions(which i rarely wear). But today I was working on my '47 dodge and I needed to know what time it was so I grabbed my Swiss Army and went to work. It got me thinking I would like to see what you wear to do work around the house, and other physical activites that are hard on watches.

whether its a trusty sub or a timex, let's see it, and maybe add a little on why you like that watch for your "beater"

Casio G-shocks were made for these kinds of situations. Plus, with the solar powered radio-controlled ones, you know exactly what time it is, and you never have to wind or change battery. Makes me wonder WTF I'm doing with collecting autos sometimes.

Because you love 'em, David. Mechanical watches somehow transcend the "obscenely accurate time" argument.

Amen! I love my G-Shocks. I went through 4-5 watches a year in my Infantry days...including a titanium one my girl bought me that I smashed within 15 minutes of stepping into the field. Bought one G-Shock and it lasted for 4 straight years!

I don't really like the term beater, but for me any of the four G-Shocks I own fill the bill. Like these:

Nice CASIO collection, John.

As you could see in my photos back a few posts, I have a CASIO dive watch that is a superb "beater". It is a quartz, so it fulfills the "obscenely accurate time" requirement very nicely.

OK
Pics STINK!

These are my 3 main go anywhere do anything watches...

1) Rolex Exp II White face M. I was inspired by Father John and put a Daytona crystal on it since I can't stand a cyclops on a sports watch. This will never be sold as it was a engagement present from my fiancee

2) IWC Ti Aquatimer Chrono. Here its on the IWC velcro strap which is so light and comfortable I love it but I also have the Ti bracelet and like it

3) Marathon TSar my true beater! Love the tritium lume and its what I wear when hunting or truly roughing it. I always have it on a NATO

I will wear any of these three to do anything without any hesitation. They are tough as nails tool watches meant to be used and they are!

My beater. Seiko 5 Titanium. Feels like I'm not wearing a watch.

Thanks, Allan.

It's funny how my concerns about "obscene accuracy" (I love that term ) have evolved over time. The first watch in my post, the GW-9100 Gulfman, is an atomic watch, and faithfully resets itself every night around midnight. It's as spot-on as any watch I've every owned. But since I've really gotten into mechanicals, I've come to appreciate that a few seconds here or there means nothing in the grand scheme of things. It certainly doesn't affect my ability to be someplace on time. There's something so sublimely satisfying about wearing a mechanical as to escape my ability to describe it. They just scratch that itch.

Waaayy off topic here. I do love my "beater" Casio's though. They kind of define bang-for-your-buck when it comes to watches.

Thank you John ! You have quite the collection yourself
I was actually looking for a Stainless watch (something on a bracelet) to wear as my daily watch instead of a digital watch.
Don't get me wrong, I still love my G-Shock but the "digital cool factor" wore off kinda fast. I was thinking of getting the Seiko Black Monster, or a Marathon. However, I think the Monster is the better choice (more in my budget for a beater watch).

I've got my eye on a Monster as well, just have to decide between black and orange . I've always appreciated both digital and analog displays, but there's no question analog is more legible and satisfying visually, at least to me.
