sub date has 3135 movement kabayan.. the gmt2c has 3186 movement.. different movements. the gmt2c has polished center links,updated clasp,bigger case and ceramic bezel.. But both looks pretty similar.. both are beautiful watches. sub is a classic,more rugged..

pretty much the only things they have in common are: black dial, black bezel, cyclops, and triplock crown.

Movement, case size, dial indices, bracelet, and clasp are all different.

Both are fantastic watches, though.

The Submariner has the 3135 movement, and the GMTIIC has a 3186 movement.

The 3186 movement I'm told is based on the 3135 movement.

The GMTIIC has a nicer bracelet than the Sub, Solid links vrs hollow on the Sub. I like the clasp on the GMTIIC better than the one on the Sub. Rolex would undoubtebly have to make some modifications to the GMTIIC clasp in order for the divers wetsuit extension to work. I think this would only be an issue for cold water divers. And to tell you the truth most divers rely on a dive computer anyway.

The Submariner would do nicely with the new bracelet found on the V series Seadwellers.

If your going to buy one or the other and you dive a good bit, buy the Sub. If not buy the GMTIIC, it will not dissapoint, ONCE IT IS REGULATED.

If you can't make up your mind, just solve the problem and buy them both.

Mine was losing 7-8 seconds a day, until I had it regulated. Now its perfect +- 0 seconds a day.

If your watch is still under warranty, it will be covered by Rolex, or maybe a Rolex-certified repair AD. Even if the watch is not under warranty, most watchmakers will regulate a watch for $50. It's pretty damn easy to do.

I had mine done by a reputable watchmaker.

Cost me $50,00, beats sending back to Rolex and possibly coming back not carefully adjusted, after several weeks.
