Waterman Phileas Fountain Pen Kit
Hello all!
Based on some reviews and comments from many of the fountain pen guru's on the forum. I placed an order for the Phileas FP kit a week or two ago. I've used the pen sparingly over the last week or so and I'm very happy with the purchase. It has taken a little time to adjust to writing with a fountain pen. The biggest challenge has been holding the FP at more of an angle. I tend to hold a pen more upright. The biggest downside I think is the Medium Nib. I'm using the pen for everyday writing and I think the Nib is too large for my tastes. I might add a Lamy Safari to the mix with a Fine Nib, which would be better for everyday use. As of now, I've only used the black cartridge and have not tried the bottle ink and converter yet. Once the cartridge runs dry I will clean the pen with the converter and try the bottle ink. All in all the pen writes very smooth and the ink seems to dry fast. The writing is smooth and the pen seems to have a nice flow of ink to the nib. Thanks again for all the comments in my other thread and for helping a new guy get in to the FP world. It's been a nice learning experience and I look forward to purchasing a nice FP in the future. I would highly recommend this kit to any first time FP user. The kit comes with everything you need and seems to be the best bang for the buck. Best Regards, Jim ![]() |

Hi Jim,
Congratulations on your new purchase. A word to the wise: Fountain pens work 90% by gravity, 10% by capillary action. A ballpoint pen works by 100% friction. DO NOT PRESS DOWN ON A FOUNTAIN PEN. You will break the nib. They are meant to glide across the paper like a skater. Not dig out the Western Front across your exercise-book. |

Jim, glad to hear you now are the proud owner of a fountain pen. Enjoy the use of this pen and be careful accumulating FPs can be addicting and habit forming!!!

That's a fantastic pen for the money. I have one in red and it writes just as well as my more expensive Sailors and Pelikans.
