Need Your Advice! Buying the 116233?!

So Christmas is coming and my parents want to buy me a rolex. My dad already has one (Day-date 118206) and I told him I like the (116233) a datejust rolex. The price is 6100$ US http://www.alanfurman.com/noframes/rolex1.html

Its a real watch because my uncle has boughten many watches from him in the past. I was wondering what you think of this watch, (and please dont be bias because it is a rolex) but besides the look, i dont really know much about Datejust and why it is so special. So if someone here could give me a bit more information on the watch, and whether or not they think this is a good deal. I'm 18 years old I dont know do you think that is too young to wear a rollie? lol btw, the 116233 im talking about is the one with the diamonds on it and all one tone... Any suggestions for another watch would be appreciated!

Information About Rolex: Datejust

Hi everybody, im new to the forum, and i made a post earlier but i think it might have been in the wrong section so sorry about that... But i'll repost here. I'm 18 Year old from Toronto and my dad offered to by me a rolex. I picked out the rolex I want from the website of alan furman (alanfurman.com) and was thinking of buying this one: http://www.alanfurman.com/noframes/ro116234fsddj.htm

I dont know too much about rolex to tell you the truth only that they hold their value well and a lot of my family has them. Is this watch overpriced? How much would i be able to get it for? I know alan furman is a reliable place because we've bougnt watches from him before. Is this the best watch for the price? could someone give me more information about the watch itself and why it is good? thank you.

Hi although myself don't like diamonds on mens watches. And if you try hard enough most diamond or gold watches at Ads if you haggle you will get a discount. The amount of what you get well thats up to your bargaining skills but 15%-20% is obtainable perhaps more, from some ADs.Alanfurman is a well known retailer with a bricks and motor store. But a grey market dealer so no Rolex guarantee but he has his own warranty. With his own watchmaker if repair is needed in the warranty period. Now check out the prices at Rolex AD first, haggle a discount see what you can get it for. Then check the price against Alanfurman but remember from AD you get the full Rolex guarantee. The DJ is a classic Rolex and there biggest seller world wide.

AD = Authorized Dealer. Rolex ADs are the only dealers authorized by the Rolex Company to sell their products and that sell new Rolex watches with the full warranty.

Vic,

Something to thing about. For the same $6100, you could take a 2 week trip to Hong Kong and Beijing, China (including all Air, Rail, Hotels, food, etc..) and also buy a Rolex Explorer 1, or Air King, or Datejust Stainless Steel, or Submariner No date Brand new from a AD while you are in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a very very safe city and so is Beijing and you would have the trip of a lifetime and a Rolex to go along with it!

Something to think about!

Vic,I dont think that watch,is the right one for you .... I think its too old for you.

You are a very lucky 18 year old,I hope you take good care of the gift,it will be something that you will cherish for the rest of your life, for the fact that your parents gave it as a gift.I was given a gold chain on my 18th birthday by my mother. This chain was NEVER off, always around my neck.My lucky charm through medical school and post graduate ...Last year had a boogie board accident, tore ligaments in my shoulder and nearly broke my neck. The impact was such that the chain broke ..Lost in the waves.Such is life ...Wore it for 18 years.

You need to look at one of the sport watches, considering your age.My opinion, you must go for a ss Submariner,as your first Rolex.A classic ,in every sense, something you will never outgrow ....

What drew you to that watch? Knowing the "hows" and the "whys" can help figure out the "what" part.

its a beautiful watch. and I'm not one of those adventurous type guys, i am more of a very mature 18 year old. I think this watch will rpobably suit me best as it is simple and elegant. I'm not going to be buying it off the internet. I will have someone go to this store and buy it for me. Im not really sure if they will even have it, but i for sure want a rolex. I dont really like the submariners for some reason... my family had a submariner and it looks very old... the rolex watch that we have (submariner) is like 100 years old lol and it doesnt look very attractive... i agree the new ones are pretty neat, but i just dont know about a rolex that glows in the dark.... (dont hate me if u have a submariner!)

No worries, Vic....nobody here has the right to judge you for what you like or not like.

Please just go with whatever smiles at you. If it's a TT DJ you want, then so be it!! Good luck on your purchase. Go AD only....and you will have total peace of mind.

All the best and do keep us updated.

Cheers and Merry Christmas - JJ

JJ,Its not a TT DJ and it has a diamond dial. The dealer is also not AD.Not judging, just the facts .... Also,he does not have the experience you have with the matter at hand.....

Vic,have you seen the watch,in your hands at the dealers or have you only seen pics ...If you have seen it for real and you like it go for it,if not try to see it first.

Chris,

The 116233 is the new style TT DJ...with or without diamonds....still the same model number.
