I have a MB BP that about 18 years old

Can you tell by the serial number on the top of the cap when the MB was made?

Good question, I don't know if there is a kind of serial number/production period database....

Unfortunately you cannot. You have to look at the particular parts that make up the pen and by them you can get close to the circa of the pen.

Here is an example for the MB 149. http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/fo...howtopic=58260

Barry Gabay wrote and excellent article on the 149. It is very detailed and will give you a lot of what you may be looking for. http://www.niksch.us/PenWorldMB149.htm

I too own an older MontBlanc roller ball which was my father's pen. The whole pen is made of stainless steel and has a nice feel to it when you write(but of course not as nice as fountain pens)!!!

Frankie,

I have two 149's and want at least 7 more. I have absolutely no complaints on the two, except to say that I have a hard time deciding on which one to take with me to work.
